Subject: Grinding/ Howling? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Sport 4X4 with 108,000 and everytime I turn right I hear growling or something close to it coming from the right front. Turing left makes no noise from either side. I'm thinking it could be wheel bearings but I have also been told it could be my CV joint. Any ideas?

Message: I dont have 4wd but when my 98 made that noise it was the hub assembly. (bearings) Parts store said bearings arent servicable, you have to replace the whole assembly but I've also heard that you can service them but you need to get them pressed back in. Check the bearings by jackin up the truck, and then grab the tire from the top and bottom and see if there is any play. play = bad bearings. It very well could be a bad CV joint but I'm sure the bearings are going to be easier and possibly cheaper to fix.

Message: Those bearings are designed to last 100,000 miles but most last longer. Mopar says you have to buy the whole assembly. I've not changed any but I have read several posts stating you can get them pressed out and new ones in. But I have also read posts stating there changeable with punches and patience. To date I have yet to find a bearing or bearing race I could not service in my own shop one way or another.

Message: Well my truck does have 108,000 on it and I was figuring since I'm gonna do one I may as well get the other side. Depending on how much patience is left from the first... lol
