Subject: New halo's great IP: Logged
Message: I was running a set of the old halo H9a in my 4x4
getting 20 21 mpg in the 40 50 degree weather
The new B-DR15YC-1 last 2 checks same 40 50
degree weather 22.98 than 22.68
When LSG Brisk started making the halo they
improved the halo ring and changed the center
electrod material and said they would be even
better
They sure are cant wait for the 70 80 90 degree
weather to see what I get for MPG
I have been installing them in customers trucks
but they last for ever and had the old H plugs
in all my vehicles well they will be changed out
for the new LSG Brisck ones now
$62 dilivered to your mail box in 2 to 5 days
and worth every penny a 100,000 mile plug
better performance, gas mileage and smother
running
Don't beleave me try them yourself you will be
very happy you did
We are running them in the super charged trucks
they are phonominal holding up better than any
plugs we have tried in these trucks
The S/C hemis would eat a set of plugs every
8 to 10,000 miles we now have some halo's over
20,000 and still running great

Message: What is the improvement like in a stock V-6? Or does it have to be modified to see any noticeable gain? I'm getting 20-21 mpg highway in my 92 Dak 4x4 club cab with V-6, auto, 3.55 axle and aluminum cap. Truck weights 4420 lbs, according to landfill scale.

stock 2002 QC 4x4 4.7L 3.55 LSD. the only change I have done since I installed the plugs is add a leer fiberglass shell. MPG did not change as a result.
I think I'm going to capture engine data on my laptop for a few days and see if I notice anything unusual.

Message: Bob 2 to 3 mpg gains in the stock trucks
If your FR5's did not take on a tan color in 500
miles something is not quite right there
When you make changes and notice nothing start
looking something is not right putting a topper
on should change mileage 1 or 2 mpg
when were your o2 o2's changed if your running
bosch sensors they become lazy after jut 10,000
miles and nothing you do will change mileage or
performance recomended 60 to 80,000 replace
Heres another thing a lot of the after market
fuel additives cleaners, octain boosters will
foul an o2 sensor putting a coating on it you
must be careful here
I never use any of that stuff good gas has
additives that keep the system clean
I run shell or mobil only I have been running the
shell Vpower 93 last 6 months will check mileage
again tomorrow will be putting on 125 miles 85
of that will be high way the rest back roads
40 to 50mph about 5 in town stop and go
I will read temp when I leave and when I return
home
will leave aprox 8 am should be 40 50 and in the
60's when I return around 10.30 am 2 stops on
the way
It has been holding 22 plus so far
1995 4x4 120,000 on motor t chain at 90 all mods
and boltons 3.55 Auto trans also just put the
mr moly additive in trans and power stearing
pump see if that changes anything

Message: I've had the stock Champions in there, with stock ignition and Echlin brand brass cap and rotor. Stock coil and ignition. I hate to spend $62 on a whim. Normally I don't drive the truck much and can't justify big bucks on upgrades, but this could be worthwhile if it works. Right now my car is in the shop and I've had to put 3,000 miles on the truck that would have been on my 35 mpg Daytona. Got 21 mpg on last truck fillup. The biggest factor is outdoor temperature. Fast warmups when it's 60F out will boost me by 1-2 mpg over 40F ambient temps. I only run Mobil and occasional Sunoco. The O2 sensor is an OEM that my brother had the dealer put in back around 60K miles ago. His catcon had plugged and melted the EGR.

Message: When you start moding the motors and increase the
flow things heat up and a 1 colder plug runs
better
Also if your running the MSD system go 1 colder
If your running the stock plug and have good color
tan and are stock stay with the stock range
left this morn at 7.45am 44 degrees by the time
I got to the shell station around 10.30am it was
only 48 degrees out
Gas mileage was 23.40 excellent this tells me in
the 70 80 and 90 degree weather I will easily
hit 24 25mpg
This 23.40 also had 3 WOT wide open throttle
passing cars ran upto 85 90mph in third all 3
times and still hit the 23.40
This mileage was after the plugs had 300 miles
giving the computer a chance to learn the new
combustion speeds with the halo's it may even
get better
A stock motor will learn short term 50 miles
full learn 200 miles
A learn is when the computer adjust the Air/Fuel
ratio and timing so it runs the correct A/F ratio
tru out the entire rpm range and it takes time
to adjust
The farther you are from stock computer tables
the longer it takes to full learn especisly the
mid and top end rpm's
On my truck as with any moded motor 200 short
term around 500 miles it will begain to run very
well and tweak out between 500 to 1000 miles
and just run so sweet
I have around 500 miles on this learn 300 with
the new halo's
When I first put the DR15YC-1 halo's in the mid
and top end was rather doggie now at 500 300
with the new plugs today passing 3 cars running
it upto 85 90 in 3rd the mid and top end is
coming in very strong
Now between the 500 miles and 1000 every time
you drive your moded truck it will run better
My first check with the new halo's was like 20.5
mpg after learning jumped over 22mpg and now
hit the 23.4
This just shows you how the computers learn any
mod takes time to fully adjust A/F ratio for
the new paramiders
23.4 in a 4 wheel drive truck is great and its
not just me all my customers with dakotas are
also enjoying excellent mileage
I have 1 guy with a 2 wheel getting 27mpg on
the high way his best was 27.5 and always gets
23 or better no matter were he drives city or
back roads
If setup right all sensors working properly
these dakota V6 trucks are very economical and
pepy and fun to drive

Any suggestions for my V8? I have scanned the O2 sensors and both appear to be working properly. The halo's have gained me nothing. I've gotten better fuel economy by switching to wal-mart brand SuperTech Oil (see my post on V8 forum) and a new air filter. I'm getting 17-18 MPG up from 15.5.

Message: I don't know what to think about em, first tank full since installing, no gains in MPG. Seems like some power gains, but not worth the 60 bucks over the FR5's. I'll continue to check MPG's giving time to learn, but then who really knows with all the Mods I preformed over the last few weeks.
Trottle Body is really starting to get under my skin, 7 weeks, no show, no calls or e-mail returned.

Message: Dan how many miles on the o2 sensors
What brand are they
The bosch o2 sensors looked good on a scanner
but were not working right found that with an
occiliscope the pattern was way off
Read your plugs they should be a light tan color
I just looked at my halo's at 300 miles and the
top of the insulator around the center electrode
is turning a nice tan color
On a conventional plug the ground strap usualy
has a grey to blackish ash coating on it the halo
ring or the straps to ground were pefectly clean
and the center electrode looked like it had never
been fired usualy the center electrode will
discolor from the heat of the spark this new
yittium they are using I have no idea what it is
but sure holds up well even in the super charged
motors at 8 to 10,000 the center electrod would
be very eroaded away we have looked at some with
20,000 miles in th s/c trucks and its holding up
very well
I am also running the MSD 6a and the 8207 coil
with the MSD 8.5 wires
Dan how are your wires
If your plugs do not pick up the tan color in
500 miles there is something wronk
Lazy o2 o2's
small vac leak
lazy map
I also recomend replacing all sensors at 100,000
miles I have seen many get lazy but the o2 is
the most important you need that tan color on
your plugs
ngk.com for new factory same sensors
I wish I cold check out these trucks for the guys
who say they notice nothing I bet I can find
something that is not quite right with there
trucks
I would bet some have wells TPS, MAP sensors the
scope pattern on the wells is not right close
but no cookie the factory sensors are made by
std standard company
sensors like IAT engine temp the wells will work
fine this is only a variable resistor but the
others have critical scope patterns that the comp
needs to work right
sensors like map and tps shoud get from dealer
only also crank and dist pickup
These little things can make a world of diff in
the way your truck runs

Message: Larry,
As far as I'm aware, it's the factory O2 sensors. I see what you are saying about the oscilo scope. Perhaps I'll just change both 02 sensors. It's a 2002 4.7L V8 auto with 75k miles, I bought it with 45k miles on it.
i will pull the plugs again and take pictures of them. They looked fine when I last checked. It will be this weekend probably before I can get to this.
It's a stock truck. It is distributorless ignition. No modifications. All factory original sensors as far as I know.
any idea what a stock output for the MAP should be for my truck? I don't just want to start swapping out all the sensors, but if that's what it takes, I'm up for it.

Message: Larry,
I have noticed some power change, but none as of yet on MPG. I have new Map, IAC and TPS sensors (Mopar)laying in my toolbox, just dying to put on that F&B TB, if I ever get it. I don't see any sense to replace them until then. all others have been replaced, with your recommendations I might add, Chill some. I know you are talking the truth, from what I have done already from your advice in this forum. Have a nice day.

Message: No I don't get kick backs wish I did
My next mileage check came up with 23.86 I have
just over 500 miles on this computer learn and
the mid and top end is fantastic
I know a guy with a jeep with the 4.7 used the
halo's and went from 17 19 to 22 23 mpg and
more power
The 3.7 and the 4.7 coil over systems have
excellent gains with the halo's
Dan at 75,000 miles I would consider changing
the o2's its recomended at 60 to 80,000 miles
and there is a reason for that its when most
start getting lazy
Your map key on engin off should read about .2
below sensor voltage that is put out by the
computer all the sensors run on this voltage
supply
Idleing full vac 1 to 1.5 volts
We have tested the iridium plugs they are no diff
than the conventional plugs the only advantage
is they will last longer for a forced induction
or nitrious yes they will hold up better so will
a platium plug but the prob using them is the
plat tips tend to hold the heat glow and cause
detination ping
The NGK Vpower or the halo is the best choice
for the mag engines
The Vpower we tested when looking for a plug that
would be comparible to the halo but cost less
as you know most will not pay $8.99 a plug but
will pay $2.25 for the ngk
either one of these will run great with the halo
being a litle better
My gas mileage 23.86 and performance tells me
all I need to know
On the LSG Brisk web site you will see were a
fleet of police cars tested the halo and overall
an 11% gain in fuel economy thats low but one
car lost 27% LSG Brisk offerd to pay to have this
car checked out to find out why only this car
the mieage went down
The proof is in the pudding

Message: I haven't seen what the lead time on ngk.com is, but summit racing has the NTK o2 sensors for my truck for cheaper than ngk.com does. the problem with summit racing, their website says it's 2 week backorder. There's a local (50 miles or so each way) summit racing here in the Atlant area, I am going to call them today and find if they stock these. amazon.com sells them to and in stock.
Otherwise I called all the local parts places and noone can source any. I tried napa, orielly, autozone, advance, carquest, couple of local places a well. Carquest said they can get them but when they looked up my specific vehicle, they could not. They all stock ngk plugs.
What a pain larry!
