Message: DO NOT HEAT you could crack the head
bolt manifold back just snug now find a dril
that just fits into manifold and just drill
into it a little this will get you on center
now get 2 size left hand drill like 1/8 to drill
pilet hole go up to tap size and drill left hand
and 99% of the time it will screw right out than
run a tap in the hole and your all set
If it snaped there is a good chance an easy out
will not remove it
easyouts use the socket mounted type if you try
the long ones break to easy

so drill 1/8th hole and then tap?
is that the idea?
Larry Thank you.

Message: if it wont put too much heat into the head here is what i do MANY times while at work to remove broken bolts
get a piece of crap metal you can fit in and turn all the way around by the bolt, weld the metal to the bolt, let it sit a minute to cool off a bit and then turn the bolt out with the metal
or you can weld a nut to the end and put a wrench on it
ONLY if you dont heat up the head too much, i wouldnt think that would put more heat into it than the engine already does

Message: The 1/8 would be the pilot hole
than drill for tap size
It has been a while beleave they are 3/8 think
tap drill size 5/16
double check that they are american not metric
Have some in my tool box but that is in the shop

Message: so...
I think Im metric
so..
drill 1/8th pilot (to keep striaght)
then enlarge to???
then left hand screw out
then tap to clean the treads
Right?

Message: i still prefer my way, easier, quicker, and most of the time works better
sometimes i even throw something in the mill, and use a home made left handed center drill to back stuff out with the mill in low range and jsut lean on the quill handle REALLY hard
that sometimes works well, other times i have tried drilling it out, then using an ezout, this is no easy matter if the bolt was broken from trying to loosen it
even in the the mill and drilling and tapping and putting an ezout in the drill chuck which makes it really hard to break it sometimes does not work
then i sometimes try the whole welding something to it, and if that doesnt work the last resort is drill it out, and retap the hole

Message: easy out - go to a auto parts store and they will show you
if you need a flat spot on the bolt for a center punch to drill - use a dremel moto tool with a grind wheel on it to make a flat spot on the broken bolt- I use this to cut off muffler clamps

Message: I had to do the exact same thing. I got a set of reverse drill bits for $10, just worked my way up from the smallest to the largest. I only had one bolt holding the entire manifold on so I couldn't use the manifold to align my drilling so I ended up a little crooked but sure enough, the largest bit and she screwed right out for me ( and here I spent $25 for a thread repair kit..still have it )
Use a strong drill though, corded would be best unless you really have a nice cordless that can handle the stress. My Snap On doesn't run the same anymore after drilling the bolt out...the drill got pretty warm.
Fenderwell comes right out, just use a thin punch to push the centers out of the plastic rivets and it'll come right out for you, plenty of room to work!

Message: guess you will be drilling then, if you use and ezout, be VERY gentle, if that breaks off in there the head will almost have to come out and it will need to be machined out
sounds like the left hand drill bit is as mentioned above, your best bet
when you get to the larger size, push REALLY hard on it and go really slow, hopefully it will grab turn out

Message: as you reverse drill the bolt - you are releiving pressure on the threads. As you take more metal out - the drill torque is greater than the thread pressure and it unscrews
BUT NEVER - NO NEVER BREAK THE DRILL OFF IN THE BOLT
when I did this, I got the drill out with needle nose pliers on the drill flats in the flutes
