Subject: Ball Joints I think IP: Logged
Message: When I turn my wheel either to the left or to the right I hear squeaking. One mechanic told me that it was my ball joints but I have trouble believing him since he replaced my rack and pinion and I still had a power steering leak. Until this day I have a leak but refuse to take it back to him. I feel it is just a waste of time. So does anyone feel that the ball joints are the ones causing the squeaks? Also, do you know if they are hard to replace?

Message: if its your ball joints, you can check them yourself. just jack up the front end just enough that the tire is off the ground. then place 1 hand on top of the tire and the other on the bottom of the tire, and try to move it. your going to get alittle play in it but if you get alot of movement, then its your ball joints. and if you have to replace those, you might as well replace you bushings in your a-arms. and your gonna have to buy a "SPECIAL" ball joint impact socket. call carquest, thats were i got mine.

Message: when you do that, make sure you put the jack under the lower control arm. like right uner the lower shock mount.
