IP: Logged

Message:
I was idling the other day 3.9 dakota 2wd when my belts started sqeaking i checked them out and they where covered in oil the oil seems like it is coming from the water pump it only happens when it is warm and when i shut is off i can see oil drip onto the crank pulley but can see where it is coming from, I have no overheating problems or oil in my coolant and its definetly oil not coolant. Any ideas

I think what may be happening is the front seal behind the harmonic balancer is leaking and the balancer is throwing the oil on the water pump. Its a bit of a job to replace, but with a manual, and a balancer puller/installer it can be done in about a day (if you are slow) and in a couple of hours if you are fast.
Good luck

if it is the balancer seal
you should weigh in what miles are on the engine
and consider a new timing chain
i mean if he has to go tear in that far to replace the balancer seal
it isnt much farther for the chain

keith what yr is the truck anyway and how many miles on it?
