Subject: flushing cooling system IP: Logged
Message: in anyone's experience, what is the best method for flushing the cooling system? will hooking up to the heater core flush the whole thing or just the heater core? i need to change out my thermostat so thought this might be a good time to flush, it's been 5 years since i bought it. also, how many gallons to refill? thanks

Message: and what kind of coolant. i need ethylene glycol, it's orangish in color. i know i had been toping off with prestone that was already premixed. it didn't have all the "HOAT" anti corrosive stuff in it like the manual says to use but it did have anti corrosives in it.

Message: Start with 2 to 2-1/2 gals. And use the orange antifreeze full strength. Flush it with a tee fitting with the heater hose that goes to your intake and you should remove thermostat, then take upper radiator hose off from rad. connect your water hose flush away old coolant till water runs clean then put back hose and your new thermostat correct side up pour new straight antifreeze and will come out of the flush tee dont worry your not wasting any will do this and after about 2 gal.s pored in take a test with your antifreeze tester should be -37 freeze point and I think 260 boil point dont have my tester at hand, cap off tee run truck to temp and make sure your heater is all the way in the hot side when flushing and after warming up check for leaks none your good to go Good Luck!!
