Subject: abs light, uh oh!! IP: Logged
Message: 2002 3.9 sport 2wd
driving home and the abs light came on and then the park brake light also lit up. when i got home, i shut the truck off for about 10 seconds and restarted and the light is off now but i have a feeling it's going to come back on tomorrow on my way to work. as far as i know i've only got rear abs, that's what the window sticker says anyways and i know there are no wires plugging into the front hubs. what would make this come on? over the weekend i did some mods, did the thermostat, TPS sensor, and IAT relocate. when i disconnected the tps sensor i forgot i had the ignition turned on for voltage reading. that tripped the MIL light and it stayed on. I disconnected battery to reset thinking the reason it came on was because i unplugged the tps with the ignition on. the MIL light hasn't come on since but not the abs light came on almost 4 days later. i'm sure it doesn't but do these mods have anything to do with it? cant see how they would be connected to this other than changes the computer might be seeing from the mods. any help would be appreciated.

Message: the light did not come on today but now i have noticed that my cruise control does not work. you press the button and the little "cruise" word lights up in the led indicator but when you try to set the speed nothing happens. it seems it worked fine until this abs light thing happened. the speedometer works fine and the abs has not or did not trigger when the light came on. is the cruise related to this?

Message: On the rear end there is a distance sensor for
the ABS around $15 replace it
Brake light fuse will also light the abs light
cruse control
distance sensor
fuse
speed sensor back of trans drivers side
or the tps
these can cause the cruse not to work or a hole
in the vac pot or a stuck cable
First thing to do is a hard reset disconect batt
hold key all the way to start for 1 min shut off
reconect batt and test the truck
The abs is a seporate computer located brhind the
pass side kick pannel in the cab and can only be
reset with a dealer DRB or a hard reset

Message: Larry, would the TPS mod have anything to do with it? I have mine set as close to .7v as possible but it's slightly a bit over, don't know the exact numbers. checked fuses, all ok. is there a fuse for cruise control? i'm starting to question if i should have done these mods, though i like the results! i hope i didn't set off a chain of reactions! everything worked fine and it's like all of a sudden and now this. would a hard reset fix the cruise control? also, will driving around with neither one fixed be harmful to the truck. I don't have the $$$ to take it in

Message: Get it scanned...it's free...and a lot of times, it'll pinpoint your exact problem. I'm gonna guess it's one of the speed sensors (prolly the one on the rear differential), but I really don't know. I don't think modifying the TPS would set off the ABS light...I think if your voltage was too high, it'd just set off the Check Engine light.

Message: ok, i did a hard reset and so far all is good. i got my cruise control back and so far no abs light. does the cruise control only work after a certain mph? when i first checked it after the hard reset i was on a road in our development and can only do like 30mph and it didn't work. but out on the highway doing 65 it worked. i know for sure before the hard reset it was not working even at 65mph but it does now.
also, went to auto zone for a scan. the guy there was a real A$$ hole. He told me he won't waste his time to scan because i have no engine lights on. then i asked about the distance sensor and he said he never heard of it. he found the speed sensor ($30) but that goes in at the tranny and had threads on it, looked like made out of plastic. i want the sensor for the rear axle, is there possibly another name for it. from the explanation from others the rear sensor just apparently pries out after removing a bolt. there was some kind of abs sensor but it was like $60 and not $15.
i looked under my truck at the axle and i don't even think i saw a sensor back there. i didn't get under and crawl around though. where's this thing at. I don't know if the abs light will come on again or not but if it does again i'm going to go straight for these sensors.
if i have rear abs why is there no wires going into the wheel cylinders. is it controlled through the master cylinder or some other type of proportioning valve? I assume it does not work the same way as front abs with an actual wire that plugs into the hub. is that what this sensor on the rear axle does?

Message: Cruse 40mph and up none below 40
The sensor is located on the very top of rear
Yes electric and valve antilock sep computer runs
the system once its triped hard reset or DRB
dealer to reset
If its working ok leave well enough alone
Changing the TPS will not trip the ABS but can
effect cruse on obd2
sonds like your ok now just a fluke I have seen
them many times

You're either stuck or your front calipers must be frozen. Try pulling the fuse for the ABS and see what happens.
