Message: I would have to disagree on the gen1 being a POS. I own one and it can whoop ass on the newer dakotas with no problem. It's a 91 with the 3.9 v6, Holley throttle body, and full flowmaster exhaust.

Message: Specs arnt crap compared to newer dakota's. 125 HP? get more out of an economy car. only good thing is the 200 TQ, and the nwer daks get better MPG with bigger motors. im not sayin they wnt go but overall they could of made them better

Message: Here in MA he'd get his asking price. People value them here more. I bought my rust-free 92 Dak off my brother in 2003 for $3,000, and it was a great deal for me. It's 4WD with club cab and cap, gets 21 mpg highway stock. I've put 36K miles on it since, runs like new at 161K miles. The naysayers here are jealous.

Message: To TDknight08:
The newer dakotas dont have bigger engines. A 3.7L is not bigger than a 3.9L.
A 4.7L is not bigger than a 5.2L
Plus its not all about peak power.
Its about low end.
Just because an engine has more peak hp, doesnt mean its gonna outpull my truck.
Example: a new Nissan Frontier has 265hp. My 5.2L has 230hp. I guarantee I will outpull that rig any day. Why? more low end, and more midrange power too. More torque all around.
Vehicle manufacturers are building their engines to produce hp peak #'s to make them look good. But in the end, for what they gain on the top end they lose on the bottom. I just drove a van with the 5.4 triton in it the other day. nice van and what not. they say its rated at like 300hp out of that 5.4 triton now. Trust me its gutless until higher rpms.
I usually drive a ram 3500 van. this thing is a huge azz van. 4 rows of seating in it. but that thing has way more balls with the 5.9 in it. and its rated at 245hp. that ram van will do burnouts, accelerate way faster, climb hills way faster. With the ford van, you gotta give it way more gas just to get up a simple hill when the dodge will fly up it effortlessly.
As I said before, its not peak number that count.
