was having a very slight pinging when pulling out in my 02 3.9 dak. did some reading, cleaned the pcv with some carb cleaner for a quick fix and it seems to have eliminated it. while reading though i read about this plenum gasket. what is it and where is it? I have done a tune up as well and was still pinging up until i did the pcv valve so hopefully that was it.

the plenum gskt is on the underside of the intake manifold. one way to check it is look inside the manifold through the TB with the throttle open. if you see some oil pooling down there the gskt is likely blown. you would also have some oil consumption.

carbon build up in the combustion chambers can also cause pinging.

Hers what to do

remove the vent drivers side valve cover

remove PCV from pass valve cover but leave valve
in hose now start engine

put your thumb over pvc hole and vent hole

if it sucks in the gasket is leaking

if it blows out its fine

Recomended check magnum engines book

my pcv is actually on the drivers side and the vent on passenger side. I had removed my pcv one time while the truck was running and it stalled out. will the truck run with the pcv out of the valve cover? Once in awhile, like every other oil change i'll use some gum out in the fuel to clean the injectors but wonder if it really does anything for carbon build up. I read that seafoam is good but also read of some problems after people had used it. Oh, truck doesn't consume any oil at all, not a drop as far as i know! could k&n filter cause pinging?
