Message: Looking for a 3.23 sure grip rear end, or gears for 7 1/4 rear end for a 1991 Dakota. If I buy gears what all do I need?

Message: that should be a 8.25
You can not just bolt gears in pinion height and
backlash must be set or it will be noisy and not
last
If you just want to make what you have a posi
richmond gear power trax can be installed without
removing the carrier assembly
if you do this replace the axle seals and new
cover gasket

Message: I have a 3.55:1 now, it's the hexagon one. The dodge guy told me it was a 7 1/4. I took the 32rh out and put in a A998 transmission in so I'm looking at the 3.23:1 to lower my RPMs as the last gear of the A998 is 1:1 whereas the OD gear in the 32rh is .69.
So are you saying the only option for a 3.23:1 is an 8 1/4 rear end? If that is the case I'll just find a complete rear end and adjust the drive shaft length.
I was thinkin that the yokes are different lengths between the rear ends.

All 8.25 unless r/t
Why did they do that I would get a o/d trans back
in there
drive shaft should be the same

Message: I have a 3.2 rear-end gear. It is low enough for me. I guess that the AX-15 is low-geared for itself so it compensates.

Message: 87 t0 91 used both 3.23s and 3.55s, with the v8 in 91 you could get a 3.90.
All are not 8 1/4, the parts book only show 7 1/4 on the v6s for 87 to 91 - don't know for sure on 92 and up.
"I" took the over drive out because the motor was doing a very bad job pulling the .69 radio, even with a 3.55. Furthermore, look at the specs of a a998.. its better.
Drive shafts are not the same, hello, the 32rh is an OD transmission, and I put a a998 in there which is not an OD transmission. There is only a bit over a foot difference. They are not the same.

Message: Do not put in stock replacement spider gears. I was told by the parts guy Dakotas lunch these pretty each. I put in a Dana Trak-Lok, made for Chrysler by Dana. It is a limited slip and uses the same ring and pinions (3.55, they were still in good shape.) Was done at about 200,000 miles. I also replaced all the bearings (pinion, axle, and crush, plus carrier bearings) and the axles are 30% stronger aftermarkets. When I almost got stuck it was worth the money. Also get a shop that knows what they're doing to set it up for you. Unless your an experienced diff guy.
