 Subject: JBA Header install.

Finally going to install some ceramic headers from JBA. Ive read alot of posts, and many prople break the posts off removing stock manifold. Does anyone have any tips? Also how do I get theese things nice and tight so I dont have to re-tourque them? And how many ft/lbs should I tourque them to.
Any tips, tricks or advice is greatly appreciated.

it seems with all the trouble with installs
and removal of the stock manifolds (broken bolts)
then some of the guys reporting that the
header welds have been cracking
now weigh the cost of the headers for what
i see as very little gains for the buck
i know this is one mod i'll never do

Usually you snug the headers up, then run the truck for awhile and let it get nice and warm then snug them up again. And repeat this for a couple of more times. Just be careful to not break any bolts off.

I could be wrong or not very experienced at this, but I had a set of gibson Headers installed by a shop and have had no trouble with the bolts being loose.
I went back 4 months later ( only 2,000 mile )
and had a hotchkiss drop kit put on by the same shop , i had them check the bolts out on the Headers and tighten if need be.
In the paper work Gibson sends you it says
"Go over bolts again after the first day of driving (or about 100 miles-whichever comes first)
then after first week, first MONTH, and EVERY 6 MONTHS."
That is what the instructions say but thats not exactly how i have done it. You asked i told.
Did your headers not come with any paper work or instructions of any sort?
Good luck with em' I am very happy with mine!
As time goes on they just sound better and better. :)

They seporate the sound and make it better
The headers will add 10 to 15hp gains begain
around 1800rpm and up 20 foot pounds around
3000rpm and max hp gain at 4400rpm
If you have not improved your intake with a bigger
throttle body you will lose a slight amount of
off idle low end torque
a bigger tb and the 1.7 harlands than you will
lose no low end and gain torque from 1400rpm up

I installed a set on my 94 w/3.9 back in 1999 and haven't had to re-torque them yet; although the ceramic coating is badly burning off and they are starting to rust. JBA grinds the flange from the inside after they are welded and the ports look like crap after they are done. JBA says this is normal...any way mine went in pretty easy with hte only problem being the EGR tube alignment; but with a friends help it bolted up ok.
