Subject: 4.0L I6? IP: Logged
Message: I got a question about a jeep 4.0 I6. I have to replace the head gasket due to the fact that it blue out, and i was wondering if you need to adjust the lifters after you take the rockers and push rods out? (I dont think so but my dads convinced you need to) I figured Chrysler used dang near the same parts on everything.
Thanks for the help

Message: yes, you'll have to reset them. should be zero-lash. very easy. if i were you, i'd spend the 20 bucks for a Haynes repair manual. it should have the procedure to do that.

Message: The only thing you need to be sure of with that engine is make sure you bleed down the lifters cause if I remember correctly you can't adjust the rocker arms on that engine just run down the shaft and run it. If the lifters are pumped up it will hold the valves open and you won't be able to start it. To bleed the lifters, you can use a pushrod to push down on the center until it bottoms out, when you start it it will sound a little noisy for a few seconds then quiet down.
Good luck
