this is worse than owning a boat. always has something going on.
went to change oil - oil filler cap is sh!t two piece and just spins.
honda, toyota, nissan have one solid oil filler
see front 4X4 diff is wet - must be leaking
this is my first and last dakota, I used to run nissan trucks and just bought the dak because it was little bigger and cheaper.
I guess cheaper is the key word.

well, got the filler cap off.
sprayed it - didn't work
popped off the top using a small pry bar - see spring inside the cap that pushes on the two plastic grippers is busted in two pieces. what a piece of crap.
tried channel locks to remove cap base - couldn't grab on and I didn't want to crack it
got it off using a belt strap wrench. I gotta see if they make a one piece

Ok so you bought a truck that needs some work. Why dont you just grab a wrench and fix it. Honestly who comelpains about and oil filler cap. Every manufacturer has a few cars that slip by and are problematic for the owner. I have a nissan sentra spec v and I am on the third engine. The first failed becasue the converter failed and the guts worked back up into the engine, the second failed while the dealership was test driving it after installing the new engine. They all have problem, the nice thing about this site is that there are always people on here that are willing to help all you have to do is post your question. You can fix both problems for less than $30 I bet. So far Ive only had to put brakes on my 04 club cab 4.7 4wd and its got 75000 on it. So you really cant say they are all bad.

Just sold my 99 4x4 CC SLT. Bought it new and had it 72,000 trouble free miles other then brake rotors at 20,000. Mine was spotless and a guy bugged me till i sold it for 10,500. That was to good an offer to pass up. Not sure what I well do now. I still have a Plymouth mini van and a Dodge full sized van. Both great rigs
Not going away any time soon. I like this site and I well be watching for info on new rigs.
