Message: heres the story...yesterday I was backing into a parking spot when I got to work. when I cut the wheel to the right as I was backing up I heard a loud clunk sound. didnt think much of it because once in a great while I hear something like that when I take a corner. anyway, when I got off work and was driving home the truck pulled to the right. not super hard but enough to piss me off.
I just did my balljoints back in november along with my tie-rod ends, endlinks, and sway bar bushings. the only other thing that has crossed my mind was my right caliper dragging. The threads have been pulled out of a few of the caliper mounts. I've been meaning to go get a helicoil kit, just hasnt been my top priority. I'm gonna jack it up and see if I cant figure out whats wrong with it. any feedback on this at all is appreciated. thanks guys.

Message: I would NOT drive an inch with caliper bolts damaged or not biting. Since you've changed the likely suspects already, could be the caliper.

Message: Ok man im afraid to tell u bad news. I had that problem when i bought my truck, girl said they just did the front brakes. After driving it home i heard this clunk every once and awhile from the front drivers side wheel pulled the wheel off found out. the dumb bitch did the front brakes alright. stripped out the spindle threads that hold the caliper in place caliper was floating and stayed on the rotor some how. Well u can repair the spindle threads, but heres the catch they are a speacial 9mm thread and helicoils are hard to find for 9mm cause they want u too buy a brand new spindle Helicoil cost was $80 bucks for a damn tap and helicoil kit. it worked but it wasnt cheap as it should have been

Message: Mine did that, but it was the upper ball-joint. Those damn Moogs. I am really not impressed with them. I had a ball-joint where the boot tore and also a tie-rod end that did the same thing.

Message: that sucks the helicoil kit cost so much. retarded the way things work these days. anyways, I jacked up my truck yesterday. spun the wheel, not much drag at all so it's not the brakes causing the pull. by no means do I have perfect vision but both tires still looked aligned when it was flat on the ground. of course it doesn't take much for it to pull. one thing I did think looked funny was my tie-rod end. it looked like the bushing in it was smashed. I didnt have a 4way with me at the time so I couldn't take the tire off to get a better look at it. tried to get some grease up in there but not much clearence with the tire on, so today if it doesn't rain again I'll pull of the wheel and take a closer look.
Anybody know if it's possible for the tie-rod end to not set right when you originally torque it down? it kinda seems like maybe it wasnt completly in all the way and when I cut the wheel and reversed it put the weight of the truck on it just right and popped it in all the way, which seems impossible but anything can happen. hopefully its an easy fix, and I hope I have the tie-rod end reciept with the rest of my parts reciepts!

Message: well, I took a closer look under my truck. doesn't look like anything is blew out and there's no play or shaking in the steering at all.
Does anyone know what they do to align the front end? I know you can take off the tierod ends and adjust them that way, but is there a way to adjust it without taking anything apart? I'm gonna take it back to belle tire and ask them to take a look since they were the last ones to touch it.

Message: Chances are its just the Caliper banging into the spindle. If the threads are pulled the caliper will just float until a change in direction. U might here this bang everyonce and awhile when u go over bumps as well

Message: I had the same prblem after an alignment there are 2 bolts and slots through the upper control arms to adjust camber/caster if one is lose the !!CLUNK!! is freggin loud. I tightened them up to spec replaced the upper balljoints as well and problem dissapered 4K ago. with the amount of work done the align is probablly the colprut.

Message: thanks pimpin, I'm gonna take it back to belle tire again after I put my helicoils in for my calipers. I took it there on the 2nd it looks like and the kid said that I have a bad upper ball joint. He showed me how the tire moved and they he wanted me to buy a new ball joint before an alignment. I told him that I just replaced everything in november and if it needed to be replaced I'd do it. besides he showed me the left balljoint and the truck pulls to the right. I asked him a bunch of questions and he didnt have very good answers, probably shocked that I knew more then he did. I said screw it and I'll see if it is my brakes stickin. Now I know to check those adjustment bolts too, so I'll jump on those when I get a chance.
