Message: My V6 dakota has a knocking sound when I accelerate just before it shifts. It seems to be the worst after it is up to temp.

Message: get a 180 degree t-stat
also try 1 range colder spark plugs, the knocking is from early detonation.

Message: does the knocking rythme increase with the rpms, or is it constant? If it is constant and more like a clatter than knocking it is probably you timming chain hitting the cover. see timing chain posts for more info.

Message: Wondering why you unplugged #5 or did you unplug them one at a time and it stopped knocking on #5. Your problem may well that injector is defective.

Message: First thing is to try ALL the injectors to see for sure that # 5 really is the only one effected. If it is I'd be trying an injector swap.
