Message: I was sitting by my desk yesterday day dreaming
Now I went back in time and thought about the
spacers they make and used to use under the 4bl
carbs in the old days
Using one of these spacers you would pick up
better throttle responce better low and mid range
torque and most on the V8's would gain 10 to 15hp
by keeping the volocity up (air speed)
So I got myself a piece of 1" aluminum and went
to work on the mill
I know I as many others have tried the spacers
that are avalible for these trucks but all have
either a helix (thread) design or some type of
design to improve air flow and do nothing on the
beer barrel intake manifold
I milled out and bored a straight 48mm bore spacer
and bolted it under my F&B 48mm throttle body
As the days of old this straight bore spacer did
improve low end responce and torque I was very
pleased with this hooked up my scanner and also
seen that the IAC (idle air control) went from
26 steps to 21 steps, that is 5 steps the valve
is closed farther but the idle is a 700rpm
This tells me the volicity did increase moving
faster threw the body and spacer
I did not have a chance to try the mid and top
end much but the little I did run it up it was
more snappy and resposive and had more power
all the way to redline
I guess some of the old school ideas still have
there aplication on the newer motors
The off idle low end torque and responce had a
very very noticeable increase
If anyone does this just be sure you bore the
spacer the same as you throttle plates it works
great keeping the air speed up just as days of old

Message: LARRY........ Been years sense I gave a thought to this but I can add A bit here. The last time I experimented with one of these blocks( There was several thickness used on various engines. I played with a 283 chevy that was bored 30 over and had a cam I sense forgot the duration. This engine was installed in my 65 CJ5. Going from a 2 to a 4 barrel carb was good for 25HP by it self. Adding a one inch spacer was good for 10 more HP and in that light jeep the total package was unreal. Drove it 13 years and never lost a race. All done safe on the 1/4 mile strip. Also never spun a tire. I let the clutch out slow and then run, not slammed the gas peddle down. The old jeep gears did not hold up well in burnouts on pavement.

Message: i dont know on the spacers.. befor i got my durango i had a dakota with a 3.9 and had a 50mm TB with a 1.5 think 50mm spacer and it killed it... and i had the 1.7 rollers on it too..... i took the 50mm TB off and used the stock TB and the spacer my low end came back... then i switched it over to just the 50mm TB and no spacer and more low end then befor... so i think those spacers only work on how well intake can flow.... so pending the persons mods would pend the spacer addition or not...

Message: Scot.... your bouncing around the idea with good cause. As I said in my post, all engines respond differently to a spacer. I also said there was different thicknesses. You only tried one really thick one. Like everything else, you need to experiment some. There may well be no happy spot for one on your engine. Larry's engine is hopped up. So was mine. Mine was the only engine I tried this on . Just happened to have one in the shop. I don't suppose you tried one of those scam things with the turning blade in it?.

Message: the tornado.... LMAO.... nah never tried one.... i seen them tossed them and they fly pretty good but never used one... i have few friends that still have their V6 dakotas and they use the spacers but its mixed.... few have some that are like 1/2 inch think up to 1.5 inchs thick and all perform differently.... i even got one buddy who had to do a custom hood cause he made one 2.5 inches think on his V8 but its drilled for NOS spray plus the motor is completely redone... balanced rotating assem. all down to p & p heads, cam, rockers the whole nin yards... but my 3.9 got laid to rest when the intake cracked and dumpped coolant into the oil.... now i got 4.7 durango...

Message: As long as you bore the spacer the same size as
your throttle plates and remove the torque step
from the body it should work on all the V6's
1" longer bolt needed or what ever your spacer
thickness 5/16 18 thread
All motors react diff to the mods some will gain
more than others but all benifit from the
increased flow bigger tb 1.7 port match low
restriction exhaust
3 days after I added the spacer I got a code 21
o2 sensor volts stuck on high volts
Thought I had a bad splice checked all wires
clip on top left to right
1 sensor ground
2 sensor signal
down from 2 #3
3 ASD output
4 sensor heater ground
All checked ok HUMM brand new NGK NTK cant be the
sensor than I cleared the code watched the sensor
instead of going from
4.8
3.8
2.8
1.8
1.01 and begain the flip flop it started at .24
went to .99 stayed there a while than flip flop
After checking this all out finding nothing wrong
I started the truck and all the relays were
clicking on and off shut the truck off and it
would not start
The performance computer died no 5 volt sensor
supply, no 8 volt crank and dist supply volts
This is the computer I bought from a guy on this
board after I got it he told me it had shorted
out and was repaired by autocompusa
Well after about 30,000 miles it smoked again
I have my stock comp with the stage 2 chip on
there now and I can not beleave the low end
with the stock comp and the spacer unreal
I do have another V6 performance computer I got
from summitracing.com made by a company called
Atech performance I got just to see if there was
any diff between the 2 comps there was none
OBD1 92 to 95 this comp will work just plug it in
stock motor 10hp 15 torque on a modded motor
this comp will add 15, 18hp if port work done
and 20 25 torque
$258 from summitracing.com just put
DCC-5249521 in the search takes about 2 weeks
to get one but you must run 92 93 oct fuel with
this it has a 8 degree advance over stock and
better fuel maps
noticeable from 1600 rpm on up to redline and
there is no speed or rev limiter on thid computer
unlike the stock 4800
Oh well gave off a puff of smoke and lives no
more LOL
Like the guy with the jeep the old motors the
spacers worked great just need the right setup
