Subject: synthetic oil... TB question IP: Logged
Message: whats up guys.. I changed my oil today in my 01 3.9 and i switched to mobil one fully synthetic. I had been using regular valvoline 5w30 for years. how long can i run this oil safely without changing it? Also I am using a K&N gold oil filter. Another thing... I also took off my AIRAID cai to clean the filter and i took off the airhat and noticed what looked like either oil or dirt on the plates in the throttle body. i wiped it off, and then held the throttle open and gently stuck a screwdriver into the TB to see if there was oil in there (to check for a bad plenum gasket). luckily there was no oil on the screwdriver, i did notice a gas smell though. is this normal? thanks guys.

Message: To answer your questions...on your first change, you may wanna run the normal amount of miles to help clean out the old oil a lil more. What I do is change my oil and filter (Mobil 1 filter) every 5,000 miles. Really though, if you wanna know for sure how long you can go, you'd need to get an oil analysis done on your oil. Mine may be able to go 15,000 miles...or it may still only be able to go 3,000 miles. I don't know...I've never had an oil analysis done...so I just play it safe and change both at 5,000.
As far as the oil in the intake goes...if it's just a thin film of oil, it's normal. If it's dripping off it, that could be signs of a bad gasket. If you hold open the butterflies on the tb and look down in there, you should just see a light film of oil...and you prolly will smell a bit of gas...as far as I'm aware, it's normal. If there's more than just a thin film of oil, might wanna have someone take a look at it for you.
I don't think there's a performance PCM made for your year Dakota...I believe they made em for like early-mid 90's or somewhere down there. HOWEVER...you can buy a Superchips tuner, which you just hook up to the truck and it flashes the PCM or something like that. Has a few different options...Towing, 89 octane (or 87...whatever regular octane is in gas) Performance, and Performance (requiring premium gas or you'll ping like a mofo). It also can calibrate your speedo for larger/smaller tire sizes as well as read trouble codes.

Message: 92 to 95 there is a V6 performance computer
I have 1 org and 1 remain from Atech performance
that is avalible threw summitracing.com
I just wanted to see if there was any diff none
I can find both run identical and hold the same
timing and air/fuel ratio
very noticeable gain across the entire rpm range
with this comp
Jet stage 2 chips for all the gain from the jet
chip is 8 to 10 hp better off idle low end
response and better gas mileage low end torque
with a gain around 2500 3000 rpm that is just
noticeable
96 97 guys jet or custom flash
98 and up jet, superchips, flash
The superchips tunner has a noticeable gain trew
the entire rpm range but nothing like the V6 comp
or a flash
The custom flash from KRC or B&G Chrysler have
very noticeable gains still not quite what the
92 V6 performance comp has you can get the high
performance flash I am talking about here or
a custom flash exactly for what you have done to
the motor like cames porting higher compression
these flashes are more like the gains you get
with the factory V6 perf comp
so you do have some choices here
One thing about the jet stage 2 chips and mostly
why we instal them is on every truck we have
put them on had a 1 to 3mpg gain
If you do get piston ping try everything you can
to keep the timming and run it
colder plugs
colder thermostat
fuel pressure and the o2 sensor need to be good
this is most of the cause of ping in the mag
motors 40psi is bare minimum for the multiport
I removed the factory reg used an adjustible
under the hood on my 4x4 with a holley pump
set at 50psi
low fuel pressure will also hit gas mileage
big time

Message: J and J,
couldn't you just have them read your website or something somewhere else?
There are, and have been many serious enthusiasts.
We don't need your regurgitating pro mo ads for sales.
Many on here have modded their vehicles, and done before and after dynos, like I have.
'you need this'
I seriously doubt, anywhere near the gains that B&G claims for a 4.7.
NOtice that the B&G website, says that the gains are not peak gains, but area under the curves! LOL
Have you seen 'Jet Chip' dynos, before and after? The ones that actually loose 1 or 2 HP on a 4.7.
I dynoed my AIT adjuster once, the exact same graph on or off- on my 4.7 anyway.

Message: We are talking about the mopar mag motors not
the imported 3.7 and 4.7
TEXASS TOAD kiss my but
I tell people what I have found and proven on the
dyno
If you want more from your 4.7 kenny bell, Vortec
blower and a custom flash
There is also a high output 4.7
IAT adjuster or relocating 2 to 3 hp is all you
will find there and nothig if any of your sensors
are not up to snuff
I can run a dyno at 100 degrees outside temp
run the same vehicle at 70 outside and see a
5 hp gain IAT adjuster is nothing
