Subject: Fan and clutch removal tool IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 Dakota, and I am having a problem finding the correct tool for holding the pulley so that I can remove the fan and clutch. There are no bolts on the face of the pulley, only holes (4). Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Message: My water pump went out on me and i had to take all that junk off to replace pump, what i did was left the acc belt tight to help hold the clutch assy. still and unbolted clutch with fan from the pulley i didnt have any problems, or if you can use an air ratchet might get enough grunt on it in a quickenough time that it'll bust loose w/o turning it

Message: A pneumatic hammer works quite well. just hammer it on the side that will turn it to loosen it. then it will spin off quite easily. someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it's reverse threaded. good luck

Message: screw driver and hammer
counter clockwise unscrews the big fan nut
just catch it near the left edge 1 rap and
they are lose than just unscrew
I have the fan tools and they don't work as good
as the screw driver hammer methoid only used
them once and had a very hard time never used them
again

Message: I used a BIG crescent wrench. It was long enough to get up out of the way of everything. Like Larry said, 1-big hit with a hammer and the nut broke free.
It was really that simple! I dreaded it for days cause I thought it would be a fight, but really no problem at all!
Good luck,
Daveo.

Message: O.K., so I am going to remove my fan and clutch assembly for better performance. I have not had it apart before so when I get the big nut lossened and the fan assembly off, what do I put in its place to hold the pulley on with out the fan? Sorry, could be a dumb question but I don't want to screw it up.

Message: I guess it looks like the pulley is pressed on so I shouldn't have to worry about replacing the nut?

Message: What is the best way to do this? It looks as though the A/C compressor must be removed, is this true?

Message: why would you want to take off the a/c
I guess the sain holds true
There are 3 types of people in the world
Those that watch things happen
Those that make things happen
Those who wonder what the hell happened
Just take the fan off clutch comes with it
But you will need to use a electric fan and a
thermo controll trew a 30 amp relay or it will
over heat on hot days city driving or going
under 40mph
