Hi guys i have an engine light on, i had it scanned and came up with code P1740 - Manufacture Control Transmission.

I searched on troublecodes.net and it said - A rationality error has been detected in either TCC solenoid or O/D solenoid systems.
Tcc or O/D solenoid performance.

My question is, what do i do now? Do i replace both the solenoids? are they accesable to a DIY mechanic? is it an somewhat easy replacement??
Just looking for advice and some info i dont want to buy hundreds of dollars in solenoids and find out that it wasnt the problem.
thanks for the help.

First clean the elect connection the plug drivers
side by shift linkage

spray both plug and trans side with carb or brake
clean than either use air or just let dry for
about 15 min

you can check the sols with a digital volt ohm
meter

200 ohms 180 to 220 is normal

If this does not solve the problem or they
check bad replace them they come as a pair

The sols rarly go bad but it does happen

Reset computer - may need to disconnect battery
negative (ground) side -long enough to turn key to start ,then back off again, then reconnect
battery.
You might want to try this first- before doing
anything else.
Especially if this 'code' came on after
getting stuck , or some other [non-standard]
happening..??

wow thanks for the help guys!
I will first try your approach larry with cleaning the electrical connection. is this connection visable from under neath the truck on the drivers side with out removing the pan?
Also i will purchase a digital volt ohm meter, i have never used one before, how do i check the ohms or what not?
After these checks are made i will move on to if needed- replaceing the soleniods and flushing the tranny and filter.
Larry if you can help me with the above things im unsure about that would be great!
thanks again to everyone i will definaly keep you posted, as it is barley above freezing in michigan now, knowing exactly what im doing helps a lot! :)

yes you can see the plug but its hard to get to

the obd1 center 12 volt front o/d rear lockup

the obd2 RE trans you will need a wire diagram to
see what is what public library or get a hynes
manual for around $20 its nice to have this there
is a lot of info in them

you would go from the 12 volt supply to the sol
wires

the way I do it is first turn key on and be sure
your getting the 12 volt

than turn key off to check resistance on sols

Yes as someone mentiond first try a reset
disconect batt hold key all the way to start
position hold there 1 min now shut key off
reconect batt start and test truck

if that don't do it than clean all connections
and check the grounds under hood there are around
7 the main computer ground is located behind the
alt on a stud on the intake manifold also be sure
your main ground from batt is good any resistance
on the ground side will give you probs

these comp controled switch the grounds on off not
the power like the olde vehicles did and its very
importand to have good grounds

start from there this will eliminate a lot of
problems

Its a good idea to have a digital volt meter you
can test almost all the sensors with this
IAT
engine temp
these have a certian amount of resistance for
the temp they are at I like to check them cold
and hot
TPS voltage and operation
you can also probe the o2 right at the computer
with a small stick pin you can also use this
pin to check the trans sols after you do this
just rub some silicon over where you stuck the
pin it will reseal it not a big gob just a rub
over pin hole
map voltage and operation

the only 2 you can not check is the crank sensor
and dist pickup

The digital volt meter is a musthave for those
working on there own trucks
