Has anyone had any experience with the supercharger set up from KRC? I am most serious about purchasing it but would like to hear first hand the ups and downs of the supercharged 3.9. Can it take extreme cold Canadian weather? How about any fuel issues and will the stock exhaust manifolds be O.K. to use with the system. I already have the Fastman 46 mm TB, slightly ported and cleaned up intake, H.S. 1.7 roller rockers and the dynomax muffler.

I had a vortech on my 3.9 before I swapped it to a 402. It worked fine, cold weather or not. I've heard the KRC is better then Vortech on dakotas, but I am more familiar with the Vortech brand and I know I can trust it. I don't think you'll have any problems installing the KRC, my only problem was tapping the oil pan; you may not have to do it.

Well, now, KRC won't get back to me on the supercharger instal for my Dakota, so I am not too impressed. I know someone on this board has installed a remote turbo but can't remember who. This may be a better alternative to the supercharger since I can't get any support or even updated pricing from KRC. Scrap the supercharger, wheres that info on the turbo???? I am sure I can rig it up for much less than the STS universal kit.

KRC isn't a huge chain with a bunch of employees dedicated to replying back to customer's with questions ...give em time to get back with you, especially if you tried emailing them rather than calling. One of the guys from KRC posts on here occasionally, but haven't seen him posting lately.

KRC

the best way is to call them and ask for Marty
than you will get answers

You can go to vortechs site find the part number
for the kit and order it from summitracing.com

the kits come with great instructions and can be
bolted on in a weekend and work great

There is no direct kit for the obd1 96 and up
obd2 there are kits for the V6 and they do work
well and are a true bolt on

I have set up many s/c's right out of the box
they run great if you want to take it farther
than a good shop with a dyno can fine tune the
setups by just adding a timming and fuel
controller like the SMT6 works nice on the mopars

Anyone with a good basic mechanical ability can
bolt on one of these kits with great succes

As far as the colder weather most recomend using
a heater the ones we use are the pan mount just
clean the pan stick it on with silicon and it
heats from the bottom up and the oil not just
the coolent the frezze plug or hose type heaters
do not heat the oil and that is what you want
nice warm oil hitting the s/c as soon as you
start it on those cold days

we go below 0 here a lot and have had no s/c
probs using the pan heaters 1 hour before starting
most use a timer you can get at any hardware
store so they come on automaticly 1 hour before
they leave for work

Now you have got me thinkin' again. Oh man how many times can I flip flop this one. I like the idea of the bolt on set up of the supercharger versus the find the parts and make it yourself remote turbo set up. Don't take me wrong, the turbo would also be a very nice set up but all the fabrication involved has me a bit skiddish. STS has a universal turbo system but comes with no FMU or any piping at all, kinda pricey for a rather sparce kit. I will retract my KRC comment and apologise to all, I did not know that they were not a larger manufacturing company. I will call Marty and get the low down. Thanks Larry.

When ever you call KRC ask for Marty if hes not
there leave your name and number and he will call
you back

He's a cool guy and loves to talk mopar and
performance I have had many cinversations with
him and bought many parts from him

Just recently put a vortech s/c kit on a 94 ram
this same kit would work on a V6

It came with all nessasary items to install and
a boost guage

we added a fuel pressure guage you know I cant
remember if the boost retard control came with it
or if we also added that we have the base timing
at 15 degrees and run just a 1 degree retard
with a performance computer

The kit was around $4,000 all hoses air hat blow
off everything was there

oh ya we did add a GS motor sports split second
fuel controler but they rcomend 24 pound injectors
we used a set of 36 pound and tuned the fuel on
this one this was done about 6 months after it
was on the truck it ran fine with the 24's

It also has the M1 intake and a 52mm throttle body
272/272 .484 with a 119 center line for a cam
new 360 short block from mopar 10.5 to 1 and
its running on pump gas

3.91 gears and a smr trans 2200 rpm stall this
is also a 4x4 reg cab short box full size ram

Larry, I talked to Marty today and he said that one of the most overlooked performance mods was to remove the clutch fan and run a 180 thermostat. He said the truck would rev quicker and it would be worth about 10 or 15 HP. I never even considered that! This is along with my present mods. Also because I am interested in pulling power he also suggested 4:10 gears and a transgo shift kit. He really didn't think the supercharger was the way to go quite yet as there are still more things to do before that. I am going to remove the fan tonight and see how it goes. Hopefully it won't be too much of a problem to do that. Then the thermostat will be replaced. I have a set of 3.92 gears in my garage and I might as well use those to see if that helps before I purchase some 4:10's. Marty sounds like a great guy and he is very knowledgeable. Thanks for the reference.
