 Subject: stalling possibly fuel related

so i get these random stalling fits with my truck i have recently read that it might be my fuel pump cause it was havppening when my tank was lower then half. but is there any other way 2 make sure or to get a more percise indication that, that is what it is cause they are a pricy little unit 4 a pump. i have a auto 97 4x4 3.9 80l tank. ne help would be appreciated.

have the pressure tested 40 to 50 psi
here is a good way to check when it stalls
crank it over than pull a plug and look
if dry pump
wet something else
the master pumps are around $200 $250 but they
come with new filter,pump,regulator,guage sender
just drop the whole unit right in
I would say pump if it acts up when tank is
low on fuel less cooling they get hot and
a thermister thermo switch will shut them
down

Fuel pressure can be checked with a fuel pressure gauge - screwed into the test port on the driver-side of the fuel rail (it's in the middle). Pressure should be at 49psi +/-5psi at idle. You also want to check fuel volume though - pressure may be good but if the volume is low, you'll have starvation problems as well.
One other thing to check with the fuel pressure is after the engine is off. It shouldn't drop below 30psi after 5-7 minutes. If it does, or even drops to 0, replace the fuel sending unit (it's a complete assembly with new pump, filter, and regulator).

o and it only stalls after the engine is warm and when i come 2 a stop or put it into park ive cleaned the ias so thats not the reason and it doesnt seem 2 be doin it while it is a little cold out side -14c. thxs where is a good place 2 get a fuel pressure gauge napa or what

i also have a question about power and if its just my v6. when i try too punch it at a light kind a racin people my truck bogs down kinda and cant really pick up till a little more rpms are gained is this normal.

Nope...not normal. Check the fuel pressure first though. How's the engine tune, how many miles, have the O2 sensor(s) been replaced (they only last about 65K miles)...etc.??

it runs good other then that i got autolites, msd wires, 180 thermostat, v8 tb.120,000km. just changed 02 sensors couple months ago

Check the fuel pressure and (if possible) have someone scan the fuel adaptives table. Go from there and/or let me know what you find.

Just a warning. I had the same problem not too long ago. I switched back to a stant 195 thermostat, changed out the coolant temperature sensor, and tightened the main post on the back of the alternator, and that fixed it. I was having most of my problems after the truck warmed up, then when I went to start it, it would start up but then idle down and die. The main 2 things I replaced that didn't help were the fuel pump and Idle Temp Sensor.

ya so i put he injector gauge on and it reads 42 psi wiht ignitiion on and 50 when started doesnt change when throttled. and stays around 48 when turned off. so i dunno ill check my iac sensor here tommorow and c if it needs cleanen thou i just put it in. and ive had my 180 thremo stat 4 5 6 months now wiht out theis problem. ne help would be apprieciated

Sounds like maybe an ignition problem.Just had the same problem with my car.Could not find the right fittings to hook the fuel pressure gauge to the rail so I changed the fuel pump thinking it was a fuel problem.Wound up being the ignition coil.

If the 97 is like the 88 models pull the coil wire from the distributor and hold to a good ground(engine block)and see if it has a good bright blue spark.Do this after you have it warmed up and it is acting up.May want to invest in a Haynes manual,alot of good info.
