Message: don't let the horseshoe-shaped snap ring that holds the plastic handle onto the door slow you down. you might need two pairs of needle nose pliers- other than that, just start unscrewing.

Message: first take out all the screws on the lower portion of the door with a phillips screw driver, then you will need a torx screw bit to take the one from the door panel sail and by the door arm rest and underneith the door handle, i think it is a t-45 bit, not to sure tho' then from the bottom you have to pry it free from the putty that they use to hold the door panel in place, then you need to grab it by the bottom and push up and pull, it will release a bit then you have to disconnect the door latch wich is held in there by a clip, once that is off the door should just come off, providing you don't have power windows, then peel back the plastic weathering plastic so you can access the inside of the door, now you will not be able to access the window regulator because it is bolted to the door metal, so the only way to get it out is to take out all of the window seals and the window channel, remove the glass, and then remove the window regulator, usually what happens is in colder weather there is a cable on the regulator that runs on a plastic wheel thing and when it is cold that wheel breaks leaving the cable useless for crankingt it up or down, to reinstall just do the reverse, o and make sure not to lose the c-clamp for the door handle otherwise it will not stay on, there might be somethings that i forgot to mention so when you get to that point and are stuck just post and i will see if i can help you, good luck!

Message: The internal part is called a window regulator
just in case you need to get one from a bone yard
it may just be a snapes screw in the linkage arms
posably just a striped handle
they make special tools to remove the clip
just stop at a body shop if you have trouble
they would probably remove it for free than
just put the clip in and they pop right back
on with just a thup from the palm of your hand

Message: Its NOT a POWER window. just cranks manually up and down. So does a wind up window still have a regulator??
I figured because it was soo cold and things were frozen per say, that when he tried to open the window something snapped. Maybe it came out of the linkage piece or something.
i doubt the handle itself is stripped, havent had any issues at all with it.
the truck is a 99 dakota sport. It sounds like the only issue with taking door panel off is the handle part and that U shaped piece coming off. Ill wait til it warms a bit to ck it out i think. the window stays up but i can with my hands pull it down then back up. so it must be off track or whatever it is that makes it go up and down.
thanks

Message: Yup, that's still called a regulator - whether it has an electric motor or not.

Message: The "C" clip can often be removed by wedging a rag between the handle and door panel. Or somtimes you can push it off from one one the ends of the clip w/ a screw driver. But beware the clip will posible fly away. If you get it apart you'll see how the handle fits on the shaft, a if the inside of the handle is stripped out it's a easy fix, just replace it. good luck and let us know how you make out.

Message: if you can pull it up and down with your hands then the cable must of snapped because the window itself is attached to a thin metal plate and that bolts onto the window regulator, when you take the cranking mechanism apart you will find the cable all wound up inside the cranking mechaism, even if the cable bound inside of that thing it would still move alittle and the handle would not just spin around like that, chances are you are going to need a new regulator, same thing happened to my drivers side window last winter when it got cold, but only my cable got bound inside of the cranking mechanism and made a mess of the whole thing, but i still needed a new regulator, well anyhoo good luck with it all nancy361

Message: My window has a similar problem, it rolls down, but at angle, when I try to roll it up, the window is at an angle like the front is out of the track?
Any ideas what is out of place or is the regulator shot?

Message: It most likely just slipped out of the clips on the bottom of the door. Mine has done this twice in cold weather from my personal mistake. It's frozen, you think you can wind it down. Something has to let go. Either the glass from the frozen seal or the glass from the track. Unfortunately for me it's been the glass from the track. Disassemble as mentioned above. Look in the opening at the bottom of the door (with window rolled down). You'll see two black clips the window slides in. Align the window into the clips press firmly until it seats in both. Test rolling up and down. reassemble door. I just had to do this last night.
