Subject: heater switch??? IP: Logged
Message: anyone have this problem yet? I turn my heater on and turn the know all the way hot and get really good heat. Of course then it gets too hot after awhile so i turn it cooler a little bit and it still stays hot. I turn it cooler a little more and it's still just as hot. It won't cool down until the knob indicator just starts touching the blue and then it's all of the sudden and then turns cold. The decrease from hot to cool is not gradual, no comfortable settings in between. So now it's too cold so i turn it a little back to hot and nothing. turn it some more and nothing still. Turn it some more and then it's hot but then gets too hot!! What the hell is going on here? Is it in the switch or is it something else? It's a 2002 dakota 3.9 rc 2wd. I've already had some kind of resistor in the fan switch replaced because it would not work on the number 1 setting. any info would be a great help! is there anywhere else i might get this heater switch panel other than the dealer. thanks

Message: Sounds like a malfunction blend door actuator. The "resistor" you mentioned is called the blower motor resistor.

Message: You can watch the actuator from under the dash - making sure it's turning properly when you change the temp select.

Message: i can hear the actuator somewhere from under the dash but can't seem to actually see it. Can anyone be more specific? Do i have to take off the lower dash panels to see it. Also, how do i know it's not the switch versus the actuator?

Message: Unfortunately, you need to remove the dash to repair the door if it's not moving in its full swing. You can watch it from behind the radio and a/c controls - no easy way to remove it though.
