 Subject: gas in oil?

ive got an older 1st gen dakota and the guys at autozone told me i had gas in my oil, n that you could smell it when you checked oil level. is this a fix by changign gaskets or do i mayb have a cracked header?

OLDER??? no year mentioned. If it's carberated, your needle & seat may be leaking or the float is shot. If fuel injected, You may have a bad injector.
The 02 sensor is still on this list.

all dakotas are fuel injected. the oldest ones are throttle body injected, no dakota came with a carburator.

Wouldn't gas in the oil be signs of a bad intake gasket. My moms 350 Vortec did that.

the 86 87 had carbs
throttle body 88 to 91
92 and up multiport
All motors the oil will take on a gas smell
if its real bad rings blow by intake leak
as someone said read your plugs its your window
to how your motor is running should be a light
tan sandy color
black rich or buring oil
white lean, o2 sensor vac leak IAT or engine temp
sensor will lean it out reading hot but the
o2 will compensate to a point an intake leak
1 or 2 plugs will be white the rest normal

it an 88 with a TBI, i jsut put a dmn o2 sensor, plugs, wires, air filter, only thign i havent done is gaskets and all that stuff. so i guess ill check the intake, if that narrowed it down any let me no some more stuff and ill work on it this weekend.
