THis week I am planning on porting and polishing my throttle body on my 98 SLT CC 3.9 V6. Has anyone done this before? Any advice? Which parts should I port the most? Least? I have dremmel with all sorts of attachments. If anyones got any pics thatd be great too. My only other mod is intake, what kind of HP gains can I expect? Basically any info would e great, thanks guys

you port the two holes. take off the TB so you dont get metal in the manifold. it would be best if you ported the intake manifold too, but i dont know that a dremel is the best thing for that, not to mention you should take off the intake manifold so you dont get metal inside the engine.

mark the bored section where the plates sit with
some dye chem or just a magic marker be sure not
to hit these bores

if you look down you will see there is a step
called a torque step remove this step and cut
the air horns off above the bores

take the trottle plate screws out mark plates
for side and top

modding a stock body this way will get you 5 to 10
hp

a 46mm fastman or f&b 48mm will give you 15 to
18hp and 20 to 25 torque at the wheels

You could just get a V8 body leave as is no mods
they are 50mm plates and a 48mm step leave as is
the low end will remain the same but gains from
2000rpm on up with a net of 15 to 18 at 3000rpm
on up

for your 98 you would need a 96 up V8 body just
be sure it has the same cable or you will also
need to swap the cable

The V6 came with any of these
42 40mm step
44 42mm step
46 44 step this is rare and mostly found on the
full size ram V6 motors

The V8 bodies can be found for $50 to $100 new
from chrysler around $185

I have tried them all
good V8
better fastman 46
best F&B 48mm

There are low end gains to be had with the V8 swap
but you must remove the intake and open the bores
to 50mm the V6 intake bores are 48mm this also
would cost around $35 for the intake and pletium
gaskits and no matter what you do always use a
new TB gaskit around $2

the 48mm bore under the V8 50mm plates causes
a low end flow prob low end will be the same
some will even show a loss

Also some the plates will hit than just use 2
gaskits

your choice have fun

42mm

man thats the smallest one out there you wont even
notice the gains maybe 5hp

the 42 will flow around 400cfm
a stock V8 around 635cfm

thats a big change and very noticeable

maybe gears is a 44mm one can only hope

I wouldn't even touch the 42mm. The stock V8 TB works very well for stock V6 applications. Don't forget to swap out the throttle cable though - V6's use a ball-stud and the V8's use a disc.

Even if you find a different year that fits you will need an egr type.

92 to 95 egr type

the 93 may have the ball stud

94 95 have the plastic cam and bycycle type cable
end

The V8 is the cheapest way to go low end will
remain virtualy the same you will notice gains
from around 2000rpm on up 15 to 18hp and 20 to 25
torque at the rear wheels providing all sensors
are working properly

after its bolted on reset and you may need to
start and shut off 3 times first time around to
learn new idle settings dont freak if it idles
high although it is not nessasary to do a hard
reset takes about 200 miles to learn new flow
so dont get excited if it runs a little crapy at
first

check ebay any 360 318 5.2 5.9 92 to 95 will
work all the same 48mm torque step 50mm plates
don't mod it use as is

a new V8 body from dealer around $185 all sensors
and bracket from your V6 body will bolt right up

The learn process on the OBD-I systems doesn't take that long. It's pretty much within 50 miles. Definitely start the engine a few time but do NOT touch the pedal - just start, if it stalls...cycle the key and start again until it idles normal.
