Subject: missing vacuum connection?! IP: Logged
Message: I took my Dakota in a few days ago for a tune up (cap, plugs, wires, etc.,.)
Its runs a little weird now. On startup, it revs very loud, but after a few minutes it goes away.
PCV valce was also making a ton of noise, so I replaced. While under the hood I noticed an open vacuum port on the passenger side of the intake manifold. When I plug while the engine is running, the truck stalls.
Obviously, this port should not be left open. Is it supposed to be plugged, or does it connect to something else (like a vacuum advance on the distributor, maybe...)
Thanks....
John

Message: Our distributors don't have a vacuum advance it is all done electronically. The vacuum leak may be causing the IAC to compensate, thinking that the throttle plates are more open than they actually are. I would plug it and then restart it and feather the throttle slighty, just enough to keep it running. The computer should relearn the correct IAC setting, if not, reset your computer.
If you don't want to do it yourself then certainly take it back and ask them why you have an open vacuum system.

Message: I have an unused port on my 92 Dak V-6 at that location, and it has a plug over it.
Do what N56629 suggested.

do you think that the high school kid that did the tune up may have switched ignition wires.
also check to see if cap is screwed down - they tend to forget tightening screws, takes too much time or they overtighten and crack the cap

Message: H guy wrong there
plug the hole if its an open vac hole the IAC
will be closed
start with throttle open a little than let off
until it will idle with no throttle
now start and stop 3 times without touching the
gas and it will learn the new idle settings
There should be no open vac ports anywhere plug it

Message: what year is the dak? and how big is the hose? if its very small, check under the air filter housing on the bottom, if not is the truck 4wd? depending on what year there was a vacumm hose that ran from that side of the vehicle down to some metal lines. that wouldnt cause the truck to stall tho. if its a decent size hose chekc teh back of the TBI near the distributor.
