Message: I have had the same issue since my 02 3.9CC was brand new with 10 miles on the odo. Oil becomes black within the first 1000 miles. I also lost some oil between changes which led me to believe it was due to blow by. Rings may never have set properly. Never did anything with it and now the truck has 41,000 miles on it and it doesn't lose nearly as much oil anymore but it still turns black in 1000 miles.

Message: Start using SYN oil. lots more detergents in it. Your not about to clean it in one change . Going to take a while but in time it will clean. I run syn in my 99 318 . I change once a year at about 7500 miles. The oil is very close to looking as it did when I changed it last. I use MOBIL 1 SYN and can not say how well the others will do. Take your choise and see how it works out.

Message: About 75,000 on my 99 4x4 5.2 CC and not a drop of oil leaking and uses none at all. I've read a lot on guys switching to SYN from dino and had leaks but only from leaks that had already started. After a while the SYN softens the seals/gaskets back up and they usually stop leaking. Nothing oil does takes place fast. Also check for lose bolts/nuts.

Message: Synthetic is what MAKES my oil appear dirty earlier. I've run conventional in my car from new to 130K miles. The oil was still honey colored at 3,000 miles when I change it. Switched to synthetic, have run that almost exclusively for another 140K miles. Within 500 miles it looks black. The added detergents dissolve every bit of grime and suspend it in the oil. After more than 40 oil changes with synthetic, it still looks dirty. However, I replaced the valve cover and oil pan gaskets and the engine internals look like brand new.
My Dakota was bought new by my brother and I bought it at 125K miles. Have run only conventional oil in it, and it looks clean as can be at 3,000 miles.
Stick to conventional if the color bothers you. But for better longevity and performance, use synthetic.

Message: synthetic oil will not make it leak that is crap
if you have a leak fix it or use oil like the
valvoline max life or any that has the additives
to expand and soften the seals
Always do a flush before switching to syn oils
or they will get dirty fast and will need to be
changed more often at first untill your motor
cleans out
blow by
bad PCV valve
running rich
restricted exhaust
all of these will also turn your oil black fast
try the sea foam get some cheap oil like walmart
super tech and a cheap filter run it with the sea
foam 1000 miles change it do this 3 times than
see where your at
also if it runs to cold it will create deposites
real fast
you need to get it clean than go to some good oil
and filter
I run royal purple with a K&N oil filter 6,000
miles in my 92 motor with 120,000 and its just
takes on a dark tan at 6,000 miles but at first
it would turn black real fast the guy who owned
it did a lot of short trip driving this will also
deposite lots of crap never warming up all the
way with short trip driving

Message: "synthetic oil will not make it leak that is crap"
Well, maybe, maybe not. A lot of people complain about it. What I found with my car, is that it leaks about 1 qt every 1800 miles on conventional oil and 1 qt every 1000-1200 miles on synthetic oil (Mobil 1 fully synthetic). I ran conventional oil for 130K miles, then switched to Mobil 1. I have run over 30 oil changes with the synthetic, and it does use more oil. When I switch back to conventional, within 1 oil change the consumption drops back to nearly 1800 miles a quart. I don't know how else to explain it. The driving conditions are consistent and identical.
