Subject: Dual Exhaust for '93 3.9 Dakota IP: Logged
Message: I didn't have any luck in the general forum, so I thought I would try the V6 one.
I have a '93 Dakota with a 3.9 in it. It is 4wd, automatic and an extended cab. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck finding dual exhaust for a truck like this. I am assuming the simplest route to go is cat-back dual exhaust. The original muffler is about to rust through, so just thinking ahead of stuff to do.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Message: I don't think you'll gain anything without increasing the intake flow appreciably. You will probably lose some low-end power.
My brother owned my truck originally, and he had the dealer replace the original catcon, then Midas did the exhaust later from the cat back. Midas put a reducer and the wrong muffler on and restricted it. When it rusted and I bought an OEM style Maremont (Arvin) muffler at Autozone, I found that I did not need the intermediate pipe - the Maremont muffler reached and fit directly onto the catcon outlet with no connecting pipe. This kept the diameter a little larger and improved flow and power slightly. Try that first.

Message: I guess for now, I am looking for sound. I want dual exhaust, but it doesn't have to be "true" dual. I went to truckperformance.com and looked up exhaust there, but for my '93, all they have is Gibson single swept exhaust. Does any one know why for '93 and '94 they only have the single style, but for '95 and '96, they have the pacesetter dual exhaust? Aren't all those years almost exactly the same trucks? Has anyone tried any of these exhaust systems? How did you like them?
Thanks.

Message: Thanks for the help Larry. I still have one question though. How come truckperformance.com doesn't have the pacesetter predator exhaust for '93 and '94 Dakotas? They have them for '95 and '96. I like the idea of having dual exhaust, but they don't officially have it for my '93. Aren't the '93 thru '96 trucks basically the same? Will the system for the '95 and '96 work on my '93?
Thanks

Message: I had a magnaglow 3in inlet dual 21/4 out with tailpipes, took off in one assy will sell for 75 bucks. its a stainless muffler and stainless pipe heavy wall. most the time pipe from muffler shops rust in days. I have had mine for 3 months. was to loud so went with flowmaster single now sounds like a cummins with straight pipe.
