Message: What causes my 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport v-6 to stay in first gear for roughly 10-15 seconds before it shifts?It appears to shift okay when it has warmed up.

Probably used Dexron fluid...
Need ATF 3 or preferrably ATF 4....
Dexron behaves similar to engine oil in cold
it is more resistant to flow , even tho they
try to tell you otherwise...

the trans temp is also located in this sensor
if reading wrong it will not shift until its
warmed up
normal 100 120 they will shift
