Subject: 2 1/4 or 2/12............

Message:
I've been reading back thru all the posts looking at exhaust systems. I'm installing duals this week. I'll be using the existing stock exhaust manifolds.
My question is.....
Do I need 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" from the stock manifolds all the way back?
I have a '96 3.9
thanks,
Daveo

use 2 1/2 all the way back. make sure u use a little backpressure or you will lose low end. dont use high flow muffler

This is a common misconception. In fact it has little if anything to do with backpressure; what really matters is maintaining decent exhaust velocity to scavenge the cylinders. I believe dual 2 1/4" is enough pipe even for a small, lightly modded v-8; I wouldn't think your v-6 would need more.

2 1/4 OD will work ok

with dual converters in the system

Kowalski is right but the prob is than not enough
fuel and it will run lean

Its not like an old carb motor add headers to
increase flow but the carb adds more fuel with
the flow the computer will not compensate
enough for a true dual and you must have your
o2 sensors at the hotest spot in the system
right in front of the converters than it works
