Message: I have charged with the r134 that comes from walmart that includes red dye and oil but can't seem to find the leak. Does anyone have any experience with this and where I might look?

Message: most common AC leak on dodges is the evaporator in the heater case.... basicly gotta remove the whole dash and unbolt the heater case from the firewall under the hood and the heater case will come out for access to the evaporator core....

Message: well if your not a mechanicly fit to do this kinda job at home then it wouldnt be wise for it to be a do it yourself job..... its not actually that bad but would require an extra pair of hands for the removal of the dash.... at work it takes me maybe 3 hours to do it... thats with hand tools... no air... i dont use air for interior work... if you wanna know the removal procedure post back and i'll lay out what you gotta do from beginning to end...

Message: Thanks but I doubt I will attempt to do it. My son may take it to his high school and do it in his auto tech class if the teacher is willing to oversea the operation otherwise he may just have to roll down the window for a while. I read most of the procedure in another thread here earlier.I did get a couple of estimates today. One shop said 894.00 and NAPA said 1200.00 to 1500.00. I asked him why so high and he said the dryer needed to be changed also anytime it was opened to the atmosphere. I really don't know if that is the case or not. What is your opinion?

Message: That's true. But the drier is only $35 to $40. The labor to get the evaporator changed out is the tough part - maybe 6 hours or so at $85 an hour, plus maybe $200 for the part, then evacuating and refilling the R134a.

Message: well 6 is about what most places charge in labor.... my shop is 65 an hour but it takes me 3 hours out and back together done out the door.... simple job..... dryer is not ans issue cause in most cases it gets removed anyway to allow the lines to come out the evap easier... so replacng that is just gonna be under cost.... no labor.... 700 to 900 bucks is about the going rate for that kinda job pending wether its a dealer evap or aftermarket...
