Subject: Rear speed sensor change.. IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, I have my speed sensor in hand and am trying to figure out how to change it. My Haynes manual sucks... badly.. it describes where the speed sensor is but little else... I'm wondering what will happen when I open the differential case.. is there fluid in the case? Is this a relatively easy job? Thanks.

Message: You don't need to open the case as far as I'm aware...it should be on TOP the rear diff. Just unplug the harness and unscrew it...unless you break it off, you shouldn't have to open the diff. ...and yes, there's gear oil in there. It's what lubicrates the gears...it's kinda handy to have in there. lol

Message: Well, since you know where the sensor is from the Haynes manual, all you need now is someone to tell you how to remove the nut and stud bolt.
Remove brake line mounting nut and remove the brake line from the sensor stud.
Remove mounting stud from the sensor and shield.
Remove sensor and shield from differential housing.
Disconnect sensor wire harness and remove sensor.
Here's a helpful hint: Installation is the reverse of removal.
