Subject: Coolant Temperature Sensor IP: Logged
Message: Does the coolant temperature sensor use intake as a ground? I have been having problems with my 97 3.9L idling after it warms up, especially right after start-up (See V6 Stalling post). When I took off my intake several months ago, I used Teflon tape around the threads of the cts. Are you supposed to? I also put in a 180 thermostat. The stalling problem has been occasional for awhile but is happening every time after a warm start-up now. Thanks.

Message: Well, think about it for a minute. If the CTS only has one wire going to it, the threaded body of the CTS is used to complete the electrical circuit, and a metal-to-metal contact is essential for proper operation. If the CTS has two wires going to it, the Teflon tape can stay.
