Subject: '89 Manual Trans - Options? IP: Logged
Message:
My second trans finally gave out at 272K miles. It was making noise for months, and reverse finally stopped working.
I have an '89 4x4, and I'm curious if you guys know of a any bolt-in options there might be. The trans shops are around me seem to think the trans in my truck isn't really worth rebuilding...they say "crap in = crap out."
Thanks for the help!

I should mention...
I dont' really believe the crap in = crap out statement. This truck wouldn't go 272K TROUBLE FREE miles if there had been loads piss poor engineering put into it.
My problem is...I have a pretty good relationship with 2 of the trans shops around me, and neither one of them think this trans is worth rebuilding. And I know a few guys in this area who had trouble with this trans (including one who works at Jeep/Truck).
I know the guys at DCX are always working, so I was hoping later models had a fix or a different trans which would bolt right in.
Thanks again for the help!
Keep those Chryslers running!

Message: your trans is probably the AX-15. you could upgrade to the NV-3500 HD which is what was used at least on '00-up v6/v8 daks.
