Subject: trans temp light IP: Logged
Message: The "trans temp" and "O/D off" light came on the other day while I was driving around town, in 4 wheel drive, in the snow. My '98 Dakota 4x4 auto has 233,000 original miles on it. I will take it to a transmission guy, that my neighbor recommended, tomorrow and see what he says.
Have any of you experienced this?

Message: your tranny fluid got hot. it will lock out the OD to prevent further heating up of the fluid untill it cools down. then it will go back to normal. double check the fluid color to make sure it's not "brown" in color. a brown color mean the fluid got hot and needs changing. let us know what happened.

Message: The transmission guy put the truck on a snap-on reader and saw that my tranny got up to at least 260 deg! Damn, that's hot! Anyways, he only charged me $30. to road test it with the reader. He suggested if I was going to drive around in 4wd at 30-40 mph for a long period, I might want to turn off the O/D. It was my mistake for doing that. Problem solved! Thanks for responding.
