I know on my old 95 i could run either. It was actually listed on the dipstick.

it says everywhere NOT to use dexron\mercon but i have a feeling they filled it with dex\merc becouse now it shifts kinda funny like it jacks off when going into gear.It shifts to 3rd then its like it shifts again then goes to overdrive.

All of the local shops near me have this jackass idea of using dexron and then shoving some sort of additive...... they showed me the bottle and it claims to "convert" dexron to ATF+3... so I do all my own work now ..... go back and have them show you the ATF+4 fluid they used....... I bet they cant

Contrary to the opinions of some, Dexron/Mercon cannot be "converted" to ATF+ anything. Get that stuff flushed out of your tranny and put in ATF+4.

You can add lubeguard black to get the aditives
the +4 has but why waist the time just use the
right fluid
I have had people come in with trans probs only
to tell me they used walmart supertech.
After getting it out the trans worked fine
chrysler has a TSB No Dextron
We use 3 fluids
ATF +3 +4 but chrysler also says use 4 even if it
says to use 3
Amsoil universal synthetic
Redline synthetic
Nothing else ever goes into the O/D chrysler transmissions
We also use the mrmoly additive in the racing
aplications as does smrtrans in all there transmissions
Using this and taking apart a trans with over
100,000 miles there is virtualy no wear
this amd the lubeguard red are the only 2
additives we ever use

Thanks, I went back yesterday and asked them what they used first they were hesitant to say then i went and talked to the moron that did my truck and he said it was mer/dex that they used. I wanted punch that idot. so there flushing it agian today with fluid i bought the right fliud used mega power trans conditioner works great now.(u better belive they reimbursed for fluid and for both flushes) Thanks for the help... Thats the reason i hate taking my cars to SOME shops!

My wife has a '07 Caliber and I went to Autozone to see if they had the new CVTATF fluid that the new CVT tranny uses ... they tried to tell me that dex/mec will work .... what morons .. off to the dealer I go ...
