Message: Is anyone out there using a block warmer? If so what kind is it? I've seen ones that replace a freeze plug, Though I don't know how hard that would be to install, or if possible while the motor is in the truck.
I've also seen ones that go inline, I think inline w/ the heater hose. Sounds easy but they are advertised at 750watts for the smallest one. Tactor Supply Co. has a Magnet style heater, that sounds very easy. But it says right on the package to remove before driving. JCW has a heater pad that is RV 'glued' to the bottom of the oil pan. Sounds good and runs at 250watts, but cooking your oil to keep it warm? Or the electric dipstick @ 60watts.
Any thoughts on this? I get up in the middle of the night to go to work and only drive like 10 miles to work, it takes 7 miles for my truck to warm up on really cold nights.
Larry I know that you live up north, what would you do?

Message: Go on line and look at the wolverine pad type. They have several sizes in differant heat ranges to fit any pan. You need to measure your pan for a flat spot and order the correct size. 250 watt is perfect for your truck. NO IT WILL NOT burn your oil. These pads are the ONLY type heater that warms your oil and the rising heat warms the intire engine. Frost plug heaters warm one side only so it takes 2 to warm the whole engine. The tank type is also good PROVIDED your heater valve is mechanical rather then vacumn. The heater needs to be open line for the tank heater to work. You missed one. lower radiator hose instalation. Works like the freeze plug heater. I'm not counting the dipstick heater. There garbage.

just clean your pan it sticks on with silicon
and heats the oil and motor from bottom up
no mesing around with frezze plugs or hoses just
clean the pan good and stick it on

been using them since the 80's
my 4x4 came with the cold weather package a bigger
batt and a frezze plug heater but in the 12 years
I have had the truck I have never even pluged it

I was loking at a new dak the other day but I
think they are getting ugly so I said no
