and this is an INDEPENDENT STUDY!!!!!

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html

Past Results
To date we have completed our tests of Mobil 1 and Amsoil. Mobil 1 held on for 18,000 miles, and didn't need its first oil filter until 12,000 miles. For all the details, visit our Mobil 1 Test Results page. Amsoil was time-limited to 14,000 miles (its year ran out), but it made it the whole way without a replacement filter. It's not a total success story, though, as it had some trouble with its viscosity. To read all about it, visit our Amsoil Test Results page.

and i quote!
" Mobil 1 held on for 18,000 miles"
" Amsoil was time-limited to 14,000 miles"

owwww and read the study pages!
"Mobil 1 netted a nearly instant 10% improvement in fuel economy, and the engine runs a heckuva lot smoother too."

so you guys keep shelling out the bucks for all the gimmicks and pushy salesmen
while your at it call your local AmWay dealer too!

I run all amsoil fluids and will continue to
use them

I use royal purple in my motors for about 3 years
now

If you look you can find test that will claim
any oil is better than the next

who in there right mind would run a motor oil
that long anyway

I run the purple same as I ran the Amsoil 6 months
or 6,000 miles on 1 K&N or Amsoil filter depending
on what is on the shelf when I change oil

A test like this will not change my mind about
the amsoil products

The reason I use the purple in my motors is
because it is the only oil in the world yes
world that has proven a hp and torque increase

Any sythetic will help gas mileage and
longevity

I have nothing against mobil 1 I have many
customers who use it

Its just a matter of choice and personal pref
what a person uses

I also do not understand people who try to force
there opinions onto others

recomending something is one thing but going
farther and saying what you use is junk use
what I say is just not right

FYI ---

You left out the BEST quote from that website ...

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: "The study has its faults -- no study can be perfect"

I followed that test from the very beginning.

My personal opinion:

#1) That test was performed by rookies, and not experts.

#2) They selected the wrong Amsoil for that engine.

#3) The testing method was full of flaws.

It means nothing to me. Shouldn't mean anything to anyone considering Mobil1 or Amsoil.

I am confused however because that webpage was originally set up to PROVE that oils break down early and can NOT go for extended drains.

Bottom Line.

IF A WEBSITE POSTS RESULTS - AND ADMITS IT IS FULL OF FLAWS ("The study has its faults -- no study can be perfect") ... YOU HAVE TO DISCREDIT EVERYTHING IT STATES.

End of debate.

If you believe they are correct and accept that statement they you must also accept that any test done by Amsoil or for Amsoil may also be flawed.

"I am confused however because that webpage was originally set up to PROVE that oils break down early and can NOT go for extended drains."

There should be no confusion there. Many tests set out to prove something right or wrong and end up either proving what they started out to prove, prove nothing conclusive or prove just the opposite. That's usually what makes for a good test.

One might think so, and I believe it helps longevity (A Chrysler engineer at the Carlisle show this summer confirmed that from his testing). But I have run Mobil 1 full synthetic in my car for 140K miles after running Castrol GTX for 130K miles. Absolutely zero difference in gas mileage - 34 mpg consistently. A 10% increase would have shown up. I have run Mobil 1 full synthetic in my Dakota for 30K miles after running Castrol GTX for 125K miles. Zero improvement in gas mileage. I average 20 mpg.

So don't expect gas mileage improvements. But they start easier in cold weather, have more cold power, and last longer.

everytime someone mentions oil he has to jump in with the 5 page essay and try and tell us how we're all jerks if we dont buy his product and through him!

I think its ridiculous that the special offer is free membership for six months or whatever. If amsoil works so well they figure its only one oil change because it last so long. At least where I buy oil i dont need to be part of an elite club to purchase oil.

I've never seen him call anyone a jerk either, despite some of the uncalled for negative responses to his sponsorship.

That's some "independent" study; from a website that reaches conclusions befroe testing ? Tests should come first; and conclusions afterward.

first off, how many people do you know of that say, let alone swear by amsoil! 30 years ago my best friends brother tried to sell amsoil as a side job.it lasted about a month, which i think is the average for an amsoil salesman. that was the first ime i ever heard about them. and, that they had been around for about 30 years prior to that. in my book that makes 60 years that they have been around. is it just me? or after 60 years shouldn't this product be available in the mass market? every auto store, discount store, speed shop, gas station? givien out by santa at christmas time? it's kinda like the ginsu knives. it's allways there on tv and, someone allways buys it, just not anyone you know.

my prefered oil of choice is pennzoil with such gimmicks as pfte or z7 on the label. and, this is mixed as a 4 quart pennzoil to 1 quart slick 50 mixture at every oil change. does it work? for me it does! 4 gmc vans, 1988 to 1997, 200,000 to 300,000 miles plus. 1 toyota 4runner 1988, 200,000 plus. and a dodge dakota 2005, 24,000,. but like i said, this is just me. my proof is in the pudding! for me at least!

There are no inherently bad oils out there or they wouldn't be there very long. Use any oil and filter you want and your engine shouldn't have any problem going 200k miles or more. Just do regular maintanence. I've run several trucks and cars over that mark with no problem using whatever oil was on sale and Fram filters.

The original post was about "an INDEPENDENT STUDY!!!!!"

Was it a SCIENTIFIC test or some goofball?

I looked at the website and determined that it was B.S. It was some guy in his garage and there was no structure to the testing procedures.

Okay, here is a comparable INDEPENDENT STUDY for BEER ...

..... "TASTES GREAT?" .. or .. "LESS FILLING?"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
