Subject: WHAT IS IT WITH HONDAS??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport, 3.9L Magnum V6. BONE stock. I haven't done SQUAT to it.
So I'm in Toronto today, up to see the brother-in-law. I just dropped off the Futon (sp?) and dumped daddy-in-law off, (mommy was behind in the Cherokee), and I'm heading down Jarvis St., minding my own business.
While making my way to the Gardiner ramp to go home, I stop at the Adelaide intersection. Damn Civic pulls up. Cosmetically, looks sound. Ground effects, accessories out the wazoo. Anyhoo, he's revs his little .5L engine (sounded small nonetheless) and I look over to see him leaning over the passenger seat and staring at me. I give him the "what a moron" head shake and don't give him a second look.
Now, I know I could have taken him, but seriously, WHY? That wasn't the time, nor the place, and this idiot wants to do something he can't handle.
POINT: WHAT IS THE DEAL W/ HONDA OWNERS???? Can someone give an intelligent, realistic exp, anation?

Message: Hey Dodge Mick, come take a drive to Woodbridge at Hwy 7#/Pinevalley. At the local hang out at the fast food strip. That's where all the local and Toronto .5 liter, 6" exhaust tip punks hang out.
In the summer time it's no joke about 300 ricers all there hanging out to see what cars show up. They even bring there lawn chairs too. Even at 5:00 am on weekends it's packed. I love driving threw the crowds with my done-up Dakota 4X4 V8, let them listening to the rumble of my exhaust and the heads would turn to see what the heck that was.
I don't see much Dakotas hanging around anyway in my area. I wouldn't mind to get together with acouple of Dakota owners and just shoot the crap.

Message: Dodge Mick -An intake is a great way to start without busting your wallet. I just installed the Quick D, but I got looking at it and thought how simple it would be to make your own. The only real expense is the K&N filter, but I'm pretty sure you can get it for under $100. A hard rubber Fermco elbow from Home Depot for about $15, and about a 12" section of 3" polished steel exhaust - Crappy Tire or Wal Mart's auto section. (And if you can get that steel pipe with a bend in it, you don't need the elbow, just a coupler with clamps either end). Hook the elbow onto your TB hat (it has clamps either end - easy!), attach the pipe , then attach the filter to the other end of the pipe. For more access to cold air, remove the portion of the rubber beside your rad, directly in front of the filter. Easy, and save about $100. Mine's been on about a week now, great sound, and seems to give it just a little more balls.

Message: We have that same problem here in my town. They want to hang out at this McDonnalds parking lot all night (its on the corner of two major streets here in town) along with the motorcyclers. I see these guys getting spanked constantly with stuff they know they will never win to. I dont see what in the world would be going through their minds. Heh.
I actually witnessed a rice boy pull up next to a Dodge Charger with a blown 900 under the hood and tried to race it. It was one pathetic race too, I might add. The Prelude had nothing against him.
On a lighter note I witnessed a Dodge Neon beat a Viper GTS the other day at the track. I thought that was something to laugh over. And I know what you guys are thinking. NO, it wasnt driver error on the Vipers part.

Message: I wondered about that, but under certain circumstances, I'm skeptical. I'm thinking that I don't want to void the warranty. It goes like this.
I married into a Dodge Family. The wife's great uncle owns Patterson Chrysler in Fort Erie. I fell in love w/ the Dakota.
2 years later, I finally got it.
Thing is, he's a bit of a stick. I've asked before about minor mods, and the parts guy said it would void the warranty and he won't back me up against head office.
There you have it. The only think I'm going to do is get a flowmaster series, and that's it. That's the only thing not covered, so I'm free to do so.

Message: Hey, now they won't mess with your warranty! For $20 you can get a set of those, I got the Borg Warner wires off ebay for about the same. They are a colder, better plug, no pinging. Check speedtweaks.net for more info. I'm hoping to see a big difference, just waiting for my throttle cable & headers to arrive and everything will get installed.

And what do the Autolites and Borg Warners do for the truck EXACTLY?

Message: uhh... no!!!
you drive an AMERICAN TRUCK, not a German Car. Unlike BMW (where changing your rims will invalidate your warranty) if you change the intake on your truck the only warranty that is invalidated is the warranty on the intake. same goes for the other parts. change the exhaust? the exhaust is the only thing that goes. whoever told you that the mods on your truck invalidate the warranty is smoking some bad sh!t.

Message: I've never been one into cars...I owned a 89 Toyota 4x4, a 93 Ranger 4x4, and now my 01 Dakota 4x4. If I were into cars, I'd definately give hondas a look at. They're inexpensive to build up -- parts are everywhere, and when it's all said and done, they're fast little cars when all the mods are done right.
Sure, 90% of the hondas out there, we could smoke in our v6's, and 98% could be smoked by the R/T, but I never get mad that I bought a truck over a car, I just laugh in the winter...
I was actually wishing I got an R/T for a while there but I'm happy with my 3.9. I mean, if I wanted something fast, I would have gotten a Corvette.

Message: Geo was an odd little subsidiary of GM. The Tracker is from Suzuki, the Prism (no longer made to my knowledge) was a joint venture with Toyota as a dead ringer for the Corolla in the '80's. The Storm was a decent little econo-sportscar (based on an Isuzu if I recall), but it's gone too. The whole idea has been ditched and now they're Chevys if they exist at all. The Metro sure got awesome mileage though they looked like eggs on wheels; think they were based on the even older Sprint though I'm not sure. Every Geo was based on a design from or made in Japan.
Hondas: On paper, the idea of a souped up front-wheel-drive compact car is great; in reality not so much. In Ohio in my youth there were numerous circular on-ramps, and I vividly recall drifting onto my share of highways. In my experience, this drivetrain layout is a blast to run hard until you reach the limit and cannot control it any longer. Like Toyota Tacomas and S-10's, they're usually the domain of teenagers (souped up FWD's, not FWD's in general), and I owned FWD compacts when I was one. Managed to jump one of them until I finally landed pretty hard and took out both my fog lights. Never had one of those annoying mufflers, though, and my pants always fit...
