Message: Well I have 87 4WD 3.9 Dakota. It has 162000 on it. Its been having problems latly. Once it gets warmed up, it starts to sputter and die and stalls. I put her in nuetral, turn the key and she starts and I start going again and it stalls some more. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, distributor+cap. Still no luck. Only does it when its warmed up or the motor is under alot of load. Any suggestions. I was going to drop the tank saturday, sinec I only have a quarter tank right now and it seems like there may be something in the tank since it does it more often when I am under a 1/2.
Thanks
Steve

Message: Jorge, That year dakota might be one of the ones that has a problem with a splice involving the wires coming out of the fuse box, having to do with the fuel pump. If you go to google and search within this site you might find a whole lot more detail. I think that is also the year that has a problem with the distributor bushing, but I think that only happens when the engine is cold.

Message: well it has a mechanical fuel pump so i dont think its that. I think it may be the timing. It seems when I start it, the pistons cycle a few times before starting.
