I have used the site to check for possible cures for my sometimes ailing 95' v6. I have really been lucky on finding posts on the forum that have addressed my problems. After fighting a heater motor problem, I decided to finally join and signed up. Larry, you must have been born inside a Dakota! Anyway, just wondering what the ballpark price is for having a timing chain and tensioner replaced on a v6. If anyone has had this done recently, I would really like to see some prices.

I'm guessing ~ $500 maybe less? I got to do the same thing because I'm tired of hearing the damn thing rattle so much. It's gotten worse so I can't wait anymore. Just waiting til I have time and space to do it.

I think I could handle it except for the fact that we live in a condo with a single car garage in Kansas where it is really cold right now. If I have it done, would you recommend having the water pump changed out at the same time? It has about fifty thousand miles on it and I know that they have to take it off anyway.

I just did mine a while ago...my truck had just about 200000km on it, I didn't replace the pump, it works just fine.
This is what mine came to, just in parts: (in Canadian coin)
Sprocket Package 85.20
Gasket 15.45
Seal Package 15.00
Hose 5.85
Tensioner 63.45
Gasket 5.50
TOTAL 190.45
I wouldn't even want to guess what the labour would have been on that.....here's a few pictures I took
