Message: has anyone ever put an xpipe on a 3.9? they're supposed to be great for power but thats probably for v8's only.

thing is with the true duals on these
you lose bottom end power
the idea is you want to pick up the ex. pulse from the other side (scavanging affect)(excuse the spelling)
the X or a Y pipe would do just that
however 2 things to consider
#1 your going to need 2 cats (yet another bottom end lose without one)
#2 stay with small diam. pipes (1 7/8 - 2 max.)
you go with duals and run lets say 2 1/4's all the way from the front, add it up
your now talking 4 1/2 inches of exhaust
and way to much for a 3.9

Message: To find out if an h-pipe or x-pipe will give you anything, you must first know the firing order of your engine. If the odd and even numbered cylinders fire alternately, you don't need one. If you firing order has two even or two odd numbered cylinders firing consecutively, then it will help.
The usual V8 firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The 8 and 4 don't mess things up nearly as much as the 5 and 7. When you hear a V8 exhaust rapping real loud under hard acceleration, it's the #5 exhaust fighting with the #7 exhaust for space in the manifold or collector.
What the H-pipe or X-pipe does is bleed the pressure pulses from one side to another.
If engine makers would make engines where the odd and even cylinders fire alternately, we would have no use for these cross-pipe schemes. Until then, my friends, there is really no such thing as a tuned header for a V8 that uses the firing order above.

Message: yeah really.... and putting a x-pipe or h-pipe on a dakota is kinda hard cause you cant run true duals out the back... the gas tank is in the way and also the front and rear 02 sensors wouldnt be reading the exhaust properly because of there now being 2 pipes...

Message: Would it be possible to splice in a parallel O2 sensor on the second pipe to take care of any fuel ratio issues, where the computer would be getting a dual signal, averaged out? I'm not a whiz with the automotive electronics math, but it seems reasonable to my limited electronics sense.

Message: Scott, just because you are running true duals don't mean that they have to exit on opposite sides. Many people have both pipes exiting before or aft of the right rear wheel. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to use an x-pipe.

Message: you could just put one o2 sensor in the x-pipe and be done with it.
