Message: I want to do this mod, so where can I find a new one? I havn't been to the parts store yet to ask them, wondering if anyone knows where to get an OEM quality one online for cheap. If you don't know about this mod, I've heard great things about it. advances timing and you get a lil more low end out of it.

Message: Good write up on this mod. Will advancing timing cause/increase pinging? My truck pings pretty bad. I think this would make it worse.

Message: wkudak,
Definitely take care of the pinging issue first...advancing the time will indeed make it ping worse. Here's an extremely helpful site on ping elimination...this was posted on here a loooong time ago and I just happened to have it bookmarked. http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/Trouble/ping.htm
It was written for Dodge Ram owners, but Dakotas had most of the same engines back then...
Seth,
You just gotta slot the bracket...I believe I used a dremel when I did mine. Doesn't have to be anything fancy at all. If you look on my write-up, I included a picture of what the bracket should look like. Then just remove the rubber grommet where the sensor goes in and slide it towards your oil filter as far as it can go (and don't forget to tighten the bolts back down...lol).

Message: GB2000, that is an awesome write up, and thanks for that link for the ram engines. explained what some mods do that I've heard of on here. I really looked into water injection at one time. i heard it was supposed to really improve MPG and reduce carbon buildup but I didn't want to find out the hard way that it's not as good as it seems. I'm definetly going to get one range colder plugs for my truck next time I do them. and get a 180 degree thermostat. do you know if thats good to do if you do the IAT relocation?

Message: Larry just made a recent post on ping issue's too
possible, lazy O2 (dont matter how new either if its a bosch have it checked or larry ever recomended tossing it an replace with a NGK O2)
plem/intake gasket
EGR valve is so equiped
carbon build up
slack in chain,
Bad Plug wires
did i miss any? LOL
hey try 1 range colder on your spark plugs first
(if the ping isnt excessive it might help)
if its a 3.9 NGK's FR5's
(really good choice)
