Subject: Truck is giving me the fits IP: Logged
Message: Well, I went out of town last night and the truck started giving me more problems. Well, I got on the Interstate and was running about 75mph and all of a sudden it started cutting out. If you floored it, it would stop. I pulled over and the truck was about to die, it sounded like it was wheezing. I took the air-hat off and it corrected itself. So, I got back on the interstate and it started doing it again. I took the air cleaner out and cleaned it. Got back on the Interstate and it did it again. So, I thought that maybe I could try the highway. I ran about 55-65 and it did not act up. What could be wrong with it? Could it be the injectors? I am going to take it and get it hooked up on a computer to see if it is throwing any codes. I replaced the fuel pump assembly, plug wires, plugs. I do not know what could cause it to do that.

Message: Hook a vaccuum gauge up to it, if engine vaccuum begins to drop then it could be a plugged cat.
If your still under the 8 years 80,000 miles u can get the cat replaced under emmissions warrenty.
To me it sounds like a chewed up or bald grounding out O2 sensor wire.
I had rabbits that chewed up my o2 wires and mine would cut out wheez had trouble getting going even pop through the intake when trying to accel it even stalled at an idle once, but the minute i floored it it ran fine. The condition was on/off and took a few weeks to trip a code. What was happening is the signal wire was hitting the 02 heater wires and making the PCM think it needed to adjust the fuel ratio to something crazy.

Message: I will look into it tomorrow. Would it be the front O2 or the back one?

Message: Well, I just got back from AutoZone. The computer pulled 3 codes. MAP, TPS, and O2 sensor were all bad. So that is a lot of money to replace, but I need it.

Message: Well, I replaced the MAP sensor and the TPS sensor. It cleared the codes for them. I will get under it maybe later or tomorrow and check the O2 sensor wire.

Message: if the O2 sensor itself is bad check them out @ NGK.com. you can order them online cheaper than buying at the parts house.

Message: Well, I got underneath the truck and it seemed like the wires were still good on the front O2 sensor. What does the rear one do? I should have looked at it, but I got lazy. The only code that it is still pulling is P0132. I took it back on the Interstate and it still does it at about 70-... it takes it about 2-4 minutes before it does it though.

Message: Well that would work if the cat was normal, but it has a hollowed out cat.

Message: Another thing to check would be fuel pressure. You could have the screen for the fuel pump obstructed with gunk and when it can't flow enough fuel the truck cuts out. You get enough fuel to go slow but when it is trying to pull a lot of fuel you run out.

Message: It doesn't do it under wide open throttle so it was for sure not the fuel pump or anything to that matter. I put the new o2 sensors in and no check engine light and no cut out under heavy loads. I still have a slight miss on the low-end. I think that it is time for a new distributor cap, rotor, and coil.

Message: I am just about going to have to replace everything on this truck. I hope that maybe soon I can get a V8 with a 5-speed.
'97 RC V6, 5spd, soon to be V8, 5spd!
