Subject: Distributor Life Expectancy IP: Logged
Message: Larry talked about distributor/coil life expectancy issues in an earlier post but didn't mention how long a stock one could be expected to last. Mine appears to need its 3rd cap and rotor, and maybe a 2nd Halls Effect pickup in 20,000 miles. Is this normal?

Message: your EIP vents in the base of the distrbuter are plugged. cap can't vent moisture causing it all to rot apart. take off cap and rotor, cam sensor, and there are two holes with baffles that will be plugged with crap. take compressed air and clean carefully, then get new cap, rotor, and call it done. good luck

Message: the sensors like the crank or dis pickup can
last forever
20,000 miles I would look for a short somewhere
a cap with the stock ign should last 60,000 easy
There have been some cases where the dist bushings
go bad can you wiggle the shaft up and down
play is normal side to side is not
but that should not effect the crank sensor that
sensor sends direct to the comp the dist pickup
only tells the injectors when to pulse
