Message: Hello all. Just came over from the Durango Owners Club. Saw a link posted to your forum. I hang out at the DOC with a 99 Deep Amethyst SLT+ 5.2l, 3.55LS Durango w/Pro-Glass Shaker, 17x8 Panther E207's w/275/60-17 BFG Comp T/A HR4's, and dual exhaust. What brings me here is my 92 Forrest Green RC LE 3.9l 5spd Dak with no real mods except for the polished aluminum factory wheels from the Durango. Had to use spacers to make the wheels fit on the front. I purchased it brand new on April 29, 1992 with 7 miles on the odometer. It currently has 236K miles and runs very well. This is my work truck. It also has the bucket seat option and rear sliding window. The stereo has been replaced with a Kenwood C/D head unit (8 years old now), with 6 1/2" Blaupunt(sp?) door speakers, 8" kicker behind the drivers seat and a 45 watt Kenwood amp under the drivers seat. After reading some of the posts, its good to see that I have some pretty decent performance options for the 3.9 if it ever decides to die. For $10,500 +TTL, I have to say this is the best value for the bucks I ever gotten out of a vehicle. After the engine dies I hope to get it rebuilt and get about 250 hp out of the V6. Is this easily achievable for the three nine?? Will the V8 5spd bolt up to the V6?? Oh, and anyone know why the 92 is rated at 180 hp and has a 3" exhaust?? Seems to be a one year thing. Thanks for letting me post to your forum.
Regards,
Stephen

Message: WELCOME!!!!
you could get 250 NA horsepower with a lot of mods including camshaft, headwork, intake, and such. I have heard that they got rid of the 3" exhaust because of noise... read that in a mopar mag when someone asked the editor why his 92 dakota had a bigger exhaust then his friends ram.

Message: Thanks for the welcome. I guess I was asking alot for 250hp. If it dies a nice easy death, ie, no connecting rods through the block or something else devastating, it will get the entire rebuild treatment. I suppose something in the 230-240 range for a 239(?)ci might be more realistic. ANYTHING is better than the supposed 180/230 it is rated at. As for the 3" exhaust, not sure what the problem is with the noise. Unless of course they are refering to the whimper I made when I found out I had 3" exhaust and the cost of the 3" Cat was almost double that of the 2 1/2"!! Live and learn.
Regards,
Stephen

Message: i think the noise was that the exhaust was too loud. not everybody out there wants a loud effeceint exhaust. my 98 has the smallest y-pipe i have ever seen... couldnt be more than 2" in diameter :-(
