Subject: 95 3.9 no start when hot

hi everyone. nice site. i'm in desperate need of help. truck has 70k, runs great, but if i shut if off hot, and let it sit more than 15 minutes, it won't start. taking it everywhere, no one can fix it, 3k invested. allways has fuel pressure, but sometimes it has no ground pulse to coil, or spark, and no ground pulse to injectors. i've done everything and changed everything. all is well on the scan tool. when it cools for 45 min, starts right up and runs good. if i open the hood, it will start in 5 min. checked the ASD splice, looks
good. the dealer, a mechanic, a wireing specialist, and me are totally confuse. please, please help me. you guys sound great, i hope you have seen my problem and can help. my email is tmezzo@twcny.rr.com let me know, i would appreciate it.

Don't go just off looks of the #115, splice, many people have been bit by that one before.

Also, no ground? Did you check the grounds at the PCM? I think it's pins 11 and 12. I had issue where my old 95 would not start and it turned out to be ground at PCM. It would be intermittent. One way to check, open hood, start truck and tap on the PCM with a screw driver or wrench, if it dies or cuts out, check to see if grounds are loose. I fixed this by holding a multimeter to the grounds listening for tone and having someone using some 5 minute epoxy the wiring going into the PCM connector. The wiring going into the back of the PCM was lose and this fixed it.

I posted about this on the board when it happened sometime late last year (i traded the truck in in jan on another dakota). search and you'll find it.

you didn't mention if you resoldered the splice?

http://faq.dakota-truck.net/Electronics/gen2_stalling.html

If there's any corrosion at all, resolder it. mine has a little corrosian, looked fine but it was not. Resoldered and no issues.

yeah dan, i cut it out and crimped and heat shrinked. i wanted to solder it, but i didn't because i didn't want flux left inside the insulation and make it corrode even faster the next time. but, i'm on to the problem i think, will dig in wiring more on thanksgiving. i'm thinking bulkhead connector green. god i hope so! i'll let you know...
