Message: ok here's the deal, next summer i plan on spending about 500$ in upgrades on my truck. I already know i want an F&B throttle body. Right now i have an airaid intake and a dynomax 3" catback. the TB is 250, my question is, can i get a superchips tuner for 250$? and if i do, which one should i get, will it affect mpg, and how much of an increase in power will it show? also, right now i run a 17.4 in the 1/4 with an 01 club cab v6 3.55 gears. Do you think these 2 mods combined would get me into the 16's? im not looking for a 12 second truck, i just want a respectable one.
thanks guys

Message: I would get the F&B and the harland sharp 1.7
roller rockers
these mods will add 15 to 18hp each at the whells
over the tunners maybe 8 to 12hp
I would gurantee on the dyno an easy 30 35hp and
40 45 foot pounds of torque real world wheel HP
These 2 things will give you more bang for the
buck than the tunner
Also do the crank sensor mod 3 to 4 degrees
advanced timming
relocate the IAT 6" from throttle body another
1 degree advance and more fuel from this
With this I would say you should get 2 to 3mpg
better milage
Also to compliment this go with 1 colder plug like
the NGK FR5
obd1 .035
obd2 .040

Message: I got the superchips programer. Not disappointed in it but nothing spectacular. I'd go with what larry said and get the RR's and the TB.

Message: Yea, I was thinking about the RR's. The only problem is the mod seemed pretty complicated, and I am limited with tools and knowledge. I've never actually pulled a motor apart, and dont you have to pull the heads to put in the RR's? The IAT mod I am seriously considering doing, it doesnt seem that hard, however... Im not too sure about the crank sensor mod. I know advancing the timing is good, I just dont know how hard it is to do that mod. If someone explained to me what to do, i could maybe decide if i want to try to tackle this job or not. By the way, Larry thank you for all your help. You've helped me decide on literally every mod I have done to my truck.

Message: the IAT mod is easy. but i think you'll find, as i did, if you have a manual trans it doesn't help as much. only thing i noticed was gas mileage went down.
the crank sensor mod is really easy also. especially with a manual trans. i could reach mine from under the truck easily.
here is a write up on the crank sensor mod that Josh(a.k.a. GB2000 on here) did on his website.

Message: thanks for the how to on the crank sensor mod.. im pretty sure i could do that myself. How do you relocat the IAT? right now i have an airaid intake, would that involve cutting into the new intake arm? my trucks an automatic so i'll probably try it.

Message: another question, with all the mods larry listed above, and the mods i have already... what do you think my estimated 1/4 mile times would be? the truck runs 17.4's right now, 3.55 gears automatic. weighs 4200lbs with me in it. Please tell me 15's

Message: You only have to remove the valve covers to change out the roller rockers. It is really not that difficult.

Message: Remove valve covers and you'll see the Rockers. Just make sure your at TDC when you start taking things apart. No need to take the heads off. I think there's a write up somewhere on this site of doing the RR's but I'm not sure. As for the IAT all you need to do is drill a hole into your intake tube that you can thread your IAT into. Not sure what size but I'm sure some one on here knows. As for the 1/4 mile time...your still lookin probably at high 16's. Can't guarantee it but your probably not gonna knock off 1.5 seconds with just those mods. I could be wrong the but I'm very doubtful. I think the V8's are running around 15's to low 16's if it's a 4x4. Horsepower is expensive...you get what you pay for.

Message: yea, i see what you guys are saying now. The RR's shouldnt be that hard. I think in order to get in the 15's I'd need all those mods plus 3.92 gears and a limited slip rear end from an R/T. Plus its embarrassing to be doing one wheel peels at the dragstrip, so the new rear end is definately a must have.

Message: if you could live with the 3.55's you could just buy a Powertrax locking unit. from what i've read they are relatively inexpensive and work pretty good for mostly track driving. it's not limited slip. it's locks.

Message: basically, what would it take to get me into the 15's. i know how to drive, i usually get an 0 bulb, and dont say drop a v8 in it. would it be possible to get into the 15's without internals? weight reduction would help, but its a daily driver so thats out of the question. im just sick of getting wasted by stock ricers with a fart can muffler.

Message: what does my post under "tires" have to do with beating ricers? Im just trying to tell that kid that if his truck is 2wd it wont matter how big of tires he's got on it, it wont be an offroader.
