Message: What do you mean 33 MPG in a 1/4th tank???? No such thing as measuring gas milage this way. Fill it up, run it to empty and refill. Compare gallons to miles driven. Then you have something to work with. $20.00 bucks every other day is easy to do. Doesn't take long cruising to stack a few miles on it.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: To get a close est.on your trucks' MPG You MUST fill it up set the trip to 0.0...... run it till it is near empty fill the tank divide the miles with the the of gallons you just put in. miles/gallons. Remember It will vary from time to time depending on your driving habits the weather, are you in alot of stop and go traffic or mostly on the highway. I get on aveage 16 mpg the last time I did my test.

Message: guys after reading that i'm thinking he worded it wrong
sounds more like he's trying to say he's only getting 33 miles from a 1/4 tank
i dont think he'd be bitchin if he thought he was getting 33 MPG's (Miles per gallon)

Message: Yup that's what I got out of it...at first I thought he was a nut saying he was getting that. But yea you gots to fill up, drive til empty and fil again. All your doing your way is seeing how far you're going on $20...and you have to account for if you're paying the same amount too...still not a way to measure gas milage. Good luck on your next test.

Message: Maybe your gas guage is wrong. I know I can be almost empty and put in a little over $30 at 2.18/gallon to fill it up.
My gas guage doesnt work at all, I just know to think about filling it up at about 250-300 miles. I get about 17-18mpg, pretty much all highway miles though, in my 88 sport.

Message: first of all, once the guage hits half tank, it falls faster than it goes up. not to mention, you have a 22 gallon fuel tank, and the low fuel light comes on when you have like 4 gallons left. mine does the same thing. fill your truck up, you should be able to get close to 300 miles on one tank if you dont drive like an idiot.

Message: 22 gal tank 1/4 would be around 5 1/2 that
would be like 6mpg thats very bad
First thing I would do is replace the o2 sensor)s
man thats bad your plugs would have to be black
or a leaky injector but than it would miss
the cold weather and my foot that will not listen
I only got 19.6 filled today LOL that foot needs
to go back to school and learn how not to press
so hard LOL
My problem is when she hits like 28 30mph around
2000rpm sounds so nice just have to hit it at
least half foot just wont listen to the brain
2nd gear once I am crusing Im ok LOL

Message: I also have the 22 gal tank and when it says I'm on empty I only fill up to or a little under 17 gallons. Even at $2.20/gal its only $48.40 to fill a 22 gal tank. Plus if all you're doin is a lot of stop and go driving your gonna get crappy ass milage. A tune up probably wouldn't hurt though if you haven't done one recently.

Message: These gauges are NOT linear. For instance, at 60 miles I'm down to the full mark, at 300 miles I'm at the 1/4 mark, but have 7 gallons left out of 22. If you want an accurate reading, you must fill the tank and record miles, then drive and refill.

Message: Jumping to conclusions only leaves you with empty pockets. Unless you fill it up, you don't have a clue what your milage is. Also, what kind of driver are you. Unless I miss my guess your pretty heavy on the gas pedal. Filling your truck to 1/4 tank is no doubt leaving you with false impressions. Here's a good examle. I always fill mine up. I go just over 100 miles before it starts coming off the full mark. this is highway driving. Coming back, when I get home the guage is just under the 1/2 mark. Get the picture?

Message: I agree with the others above...you need to get a fairly accurate gas mileage calculation before deciding your truck is needing "fixed".
Like Bob Lincoln said...our gas gauges are NOT linear. If I fill my truck up to 1/4 tank according to my gas gauge, I can drive about 10-15 miles before I hit 1/8 tank and my gas light kicks on. From there I can literally watch the needle drop towards E.
HOWEVER...when I fill it up...I can drive about 20 miles before the needle even begins to move off the full mark. I can usually get around 220 miles before my gas light comes on...but I also have a smaller tank...15 gallons I think (all I know is there is no way in hell I have a 22 gal tank...if I fill it from E it takes around 13 gallons to fill it tops).

Message: GB2000, don'tcha think that a 15 gal tank in a truck is too little? I mean, I get roughly the same mileage that you get with yours...220mile before I need to fill up again. How far am I going to get pulling a 17ft boat! Seems that any truck that has a V6 in it should have at least an 18 gallon tank or better. Hell, the military requires that all of it's vehicles be designed to run 300 miles before they need fuel.

Message: mine's a 15gal tank too (standard with the v6?). once i ran it waaaay after the needle was on the E, and when i filled it up it took just over 14 gals.
:)
but i know mine runs worse when the tank is low. i try to refill it when it hits half or 3/4 empty mark. i think it likes the extra weight too. and its just a good idea here in socal just in case we finally have our "big one" earthquake or some other emergency that knocks out power to the gas pumps.

Message: 15 gallon gas tank dakotas unite!!
ok that was gay, but i didn't knowingly purchase my used dak with a 15 gallon tank. It doesn't even list it in the O.M. I got an estimate to get the 22, but all the sensors and eqt would have to be replaced too, and it was like $1,200 to $1,800 (it was a year ago, so i forgot).
oh and if we are complaining about gas milage, i get 14-15 city, 17-18 highway (with a V6) and im NOT loving it.
