 Subject: Check Engine Light HELP

My Check engine light came on after i got my 2000 dodge dakota straight piped,and converted to dual exhaust. It is hooked up by a Y pipe straight to the cadillac converter. Is that normal for it to come on since there is no longer a muffler? Or could there be something else worng with it. It runs fine but the light never goes off.

I have a 1996 kota, same engine as you. My check engine light came on about 1-2 years ago, it still runs fine. My chrck engine light came on because i had a bad o2 sensor, you proly have a bad o2 sensor

I have a '98 Dakota with the V6 and 69000 miles. My check engine light came on last weekend. I disconncted the battery and it stayed off for just over a week. And just came back on again today. It has run fine ever sence I owned in the only thing that has been replaced is the Cat. Converter last spring.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mine came on day before yesterday, and I took it to the dealer (under warranty). They called me today and told me that it was a gas filler gasket that dorked it up. Also told me that they'd gotten quite a few back for this same problem.
I travel for a living and away from home now - won't pick the truck up until Friday. But, I'll get the exact fix from the invoice and post it for you when I get back.

My 2002 Dodge Dokota has a problem with the check engine light, I replaced my gas cap and went to have the light turned off, and it came back on, so I took it to Dodge and they checked it and said I have a large emission leak and to find it would take a smoke test which is 76.00 to find out what my problems is???

Check engine light came on on my 98 Dakota, 3.9L, had it tested and was one of the sensors in the transmission. Had the tran flushed and have had no problems since.

I know my check light came on at 69,000...no codes, just a friendly reminder from Dodge to take part in a 70,000 mile check-up. Unfortunately, I had to take it to a shop to be reset.

My 2000 3.9L Check Engine Light came on and stayed on until i replaced the Air Filter. I had to wait until i put about 50 miles on it, but it finally went away!!
